If you can grab one of the tables outside on a gorgeous summery evening you will probably never want to leave! We certainly didn’t! Once we have a lovely Dominique Portet Brut Rose on the table and menus in hand we are set for a fantastic evening!
The menu is a fantastic mix of share plates, classics, salads and hearty dishes like ‘Beef, Guinness, bacon and mushroom pie’. We are loving our pink bubbles as we select a list of dishes to share in the sunshine.

I bought a deal on the net for O'Connells. Made a booking for the back dining room and was very impressed by the room. Warm, cosy and very comfortable. Waiting staff very friendly and knowledgable.
Our deal gave us a pick of 3 courses, there is a favourites menu but apart from that the Mains are very limited, 5 options plus a vegetarian option.
We started with the souffle and the Gnocchi. Souffle was disappointing, but Gnocchi was impressive if you could overlook the overpowering of the rosemary. We both had Duck for main.....it was nice enough but it was a tad dry and needed a little more than just lentils.
Dessert we had Bombe Alaska and my partner had the Creme Caramel. Her dessert was lovely, decent serving and very well presented. The Bombe Alaska though was a cylander of rock solid ice cream, piped with meringue and blow torched. Not that its a bad thing but you shouldnt need a steak knife when eating a dessert.
In the end we did enjoy our experience, staff were great and it was a nice atmosphere. The food though although enjoyable was probably a overpriced for what it was.

O'Connell's offers a good, honest welcoming atmosphere, professional service and a reliable menu that spans pub classics to more adventurous fare. My Sunday lunchtime meal of prawn linguine was very well prepared, and was interestingly presentation in an earthernware dish, whilst my companion chose a classic beef burger, which ticked all the right boxes.
A good selection of reasonably priced wines by the glass are on offer, and our choice was served in high-quality long-stemmed glassware that's a hint that this 'pub' is a cut above the average. Outstanding coffee to finish the meal confirmed this impression.

Had lunch here recently. One of the original foodie pubs, this place is still getting good trade and the food holds up ok. I started with the gnocchi which was really very well done and not an easy thing to get right so you know there is some skill in the kitchen.
Followed this with the fish pie. Not quite as successful, it was underseasoned and a bit runny for my taste. Still a good place to spend an afternoon and the prices are reasonable for the standard of food.

Don't neccessarily believe the hype. The food at O'Connells is good but not extraordinary. Entree was Calamari with an asian salad which was fresh and crisp but not fiery or fragrant enough for my taste. The Porterhouse was beautifully cooked but on the whole...they play it very safe with flavours. The sides of potatoes, mash and pumpkin with pine nuts are definitely where they got more adventurous.

At first was hesitant when told we were going to a pub for a business dinner but this place is just amazing. It is fine dining, the food was amazing, the service impeccable and will definitely come back.
