Since relocating our office to Glen Waverley, this has been our favourite Chinese restaurant for Friday long lunch. The menu contains some really nice dishes, just that you must know what to order or willing to let your taste bud explore new flavours. One favourite is the lamp chop served with rosemary sauce. Most Aussies will like it.
Then again, depending on who you go with, a delicious plate of king prawns served with fried egg may end up as 'some weird egg'. At times may even end up ordering too much food for the table. As for the service, the waitresses know us quite well by now so really friendly with us.

I would never go here again. Service was rude; food was poor to below average for a Chinese Restaurant; extremely overpriced and very small serves. Menu quoted half Peking Duck $25.00 and it arrived at the table with six tiny slices of duck and some grated carrot. When queried the waiter was very rude "what you want. That six slices, that’s half duck" Really. Ten km down Springvale Road there is Springvale where you can purchase a whole Peking Duck for $25.00! The other five meals were of equal disappointment. I would never recommend.

A pretty average Chinese restaurant, uses a lot of MSG and oil, sometimes too much oil. Like most other Chinese restaurants, service is below that of the general standard, a 4 would be an average of what you can expect from a Chinese restaurant, however, one of the senior staffs here was quite rude when we asked for dessert so a -1 penalty. Likewise, Chinese food is often better value, only by a margin.

Prices have crept up a little over the years. Had a la carte and yum cha a few times previously. Now just do take aways as sit down service is really bad. The 2 type fish and eel dishes weren't good when we had it at sit down. Other food normally really good. BBQ roast meats tend to be quite consistent and prety good. Have found hair in my yum cha a couple of times. Didn't bother complaining as it was so busy staff wouldn't have cared at all. Usually the take away service is ok, sometimes can be exceptional. Other times service is downright rude and arrogant. Normally very busy and hard to get in the door due to take aways.

What it lacks in imagination and decore, it makes up for in consistency and value.
The fish is fresh and the char sui and duck are competitive with Rock Kung down the street. A good value play for takeaway western tastes, somewhat hectic for the sit down side of things.

I found that after visiting this restaurant after a hard night at work, the late night menu was ok in the sense that the food was good but the price was relatively dear compared to the other Asian restaurant. After working in the hospitality industry for 4 years, I know that service can be slack due to various reason, however, there is no excuse for their lack of warmth in greeting and meeting customers. So I marked them down on service.

I love yum cha and have experimented all over Melbourne. Ocean King's offerings is, in my opinion, one of the better modestly priced examples.

Although I am not a big fan of Yum Cha, I found the food served at this restaurant acceptable. Vegetables play a minor role - if any- in most of the dishes with prawns as the main ingredient. If you want to live a healthy lifestyle my personal advice is to avoid going to Yum Chas.
