A treasure that is nestled between Glen Waverley and Burwood. This is a restaurant with very fine standings winning numerous awards. The manager is a fantastic approachable gentleman who is willing to talk to the customers. He is attentive and alert and is a pleasure to talk to.
The food is fantastic. Nevermind the Yum Cha, come for dinner and have a great night. Mud crab and noodle is my family favourite though the crab will only be good if it's in season. Waiting time is usually about 5 minutes or more but I'm not fussed knowing that I'll get top quality food for my patience.
For the undecided, come have a go at this restaurant. The warm lights and the pleasant food will ensure that your night will end up fantastic. NB. Ambience was marked lower due to the loud family next to me.
We have been regulars of New Royal Garden for 10 years. The food is always perfect and Bang the owner will give you special assistance if you ask him. We never look at the menu, we just tell him what we feel like eating and he suggests the latest on the menu, depending on what's in season. The Yum Cha is always great too. Very busy and tight on a Sunday so book. Best Peking Duck - not fatty at all. I'm in the food industry, so is very, very food. You won't be let down.
We made a booking for yum cha on Fathers' Day and when we arrived, we were told to wait because priority was given to those who book earlier than us. After 15 minutes, the owner of the restaurant asked us and another couple if we mind sharing a big table and we agreed to that. When we have settled down at the table, he came in with four other customers asking us to shift our seats. We and the other couple thought that it was too cramp to share with so many people and he simply told the other couple that they did not book and they are lucky that they got a place and he is running a business.
Bang (the manager) will look after you - great special dishes if you ask. Excellent Peking Duck and Golden Roll to die for.. Large restaurant and very busy. Disregard the idiot who said the food is bland, lets face it ALL Dims Sims taste the same if you order them.
Always try to make a booking if possible, otherwise, you will end up waiting for ages for a table if you rock up without one. Food is pretty good, try the egg tarts esp. Can get pretty noisy and crowded.
The yum cha here is excellent and so popular that even if you book you'll have to queue up! Don't let that put you off though, if you're after great value yum cha and don't want the hassle of traffic, parking etc that you get in the city then try this place. It can be hectic in here and as a result the service is often hit and miss, you'll have to call over a waiter to get a drink, however the staff are generally friendly and happy to oblige your requests. Don't take notice of the "bland, bland, bland" review, we've been enjoying the fantastic yum cha here for years and it's always packed out so that speaks for itself.
Great value for money! The food's pretty good and the chefs come up with some pretty innovative dishes. Ambience is nothing to shout about, in fact it gets pretty noisy once the place fills up. However, the service is attentive and responsive.
