I travel to Melbourne from country Victoria (4 hours) every 6 weeks to visit a specialist. After the appointment I head over to Nelayan for lunch, and do a spot of shopping in the two Asian grocery stores next door.

Nelayan food is brilliant and I mix and match orders from main menu on the wall and try a few things in the bay marie. I have visited Indonesia 5 times and the food at Nelayan has the same beautiful flavors but is better as it uses better produce we have here in Australia. It's well worth checking out, I haven't visited the city restaurant, just Hawthorn, but I bet it's just as good!

The food is ok. Need to improve the service, more generous in quantity and more variety in vegies dish.

Don't be fooled by the bay maries.... A full menu is on the wall and is well worth the additional time. Great traditional food and a great price.
