Overview of Mosq Restaurant & Functions
South Yarra's newest addition, Mosq is an exotic venue furnished with authentic Moroccan decor, exotic rugs, hanging lanterns, high vaulted ceilings and plush daybeds. A range of Moroccan tapas & platters, Middle Eastern cocktails, flavoured sheesha pipes and an outdoor bar & terrace complement the sensuous experience
Belly dancers perform exotic dances every Sunday and the sounds of the acoustic guitars entertain diners on Tuesday nights. Free tarot readings on Wednesday night and guest vocalists perform on Thursdays, making Mosq a full dining experience.
So I’d promised a date a night out in style. I love Moroccan food and upon checking out Mosq’s website decided it was a good thing. I was not wrong. The one disappointment was showing up for our booked time of 7:30 pm to discover there was no booking. (The restaurant had been closed when I called earlier in the day so I contacted the function centre who advised they could take the booking, I would advise against doing this).
The missing booking turned out to be a godsend as we were led to the “Best Seat In The House.” Our friendly waiter advised “Take off your shoes, hop in and get comfortable.” We hopped into a booth (almost a 4-poster bed) decked out with cushions and with intricate patterns decorating the walls, you lie in here, not sit. Wow!
We ordered cocktails which were excellent and for dinner the Moroccan Platter For Two which was filling and did not disappoint, I found the chicken skewers the pick of the lot. For dessert we ordered a cappuccino and mint shisha and were told we would be called when it was ready. 5 minutes later we were lead out to the front deck where our Shisha awaited along with a guitarist playing easy listening sing-a-longs. We spent the last half hour of our evening relaxing on the deck, enjoying our dessert and the tunes.
Mosq is not the venue for a quick, sit-down meal. You really do need a good couple of hours to enjoy the atmosphere, have a couple of drinks and a wonderful meal. The staff are friendly and attentive and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable.
Dinner for 2 plus drinks and shisha came to just over $100, very acceptable in my opinion. I will be returning to Mosq!
Went there for a birthday dinner. The food and service was great. Live music was played in the background that created a great atmosphere. The only downside was that we waited an hour for the food.
Excellent experience with very friendly and lovely staff who attended to our needs. Food was fantastic, cocktails perfect! Atmosphere was perfect. Loved it!
Went there for our anniversary and had a wonderful time. We were seated on a 'day bed' with cosy cushions and were told to take our shoes off and relax. Service was great (the waiters really looked after us) and the food was wonderful. Definitely recommend to everyone and will be going back!
What a pleasant surprise this restaurant is tucked in behind Chapel St. It scores highly in all categories. Being in the area for a bit of business that finished late, the task was at hand to find somewhere good to eat. Whilst there are many restaurants and cafes in the area, not many are actually very good.
Firstly, the beautiful live music was very compelling and the two musicians looked cool and played pretty cool as well. Then there's the decor. What a great feel and atmosphere this place has. It just oozes a relaxed, chilled style. Our waitress was terrific and one of the managers, Dave, a very attentive and friendly host. Our meals were excellent, the baby calamari an absolute standout.
This was followed by the platter and every mouthful was delicious. Accompanied by a great bottle of wine and it all added up to a serendipitous stand out evening. I don't understand why there is a big screen playing, though at least it is showing tasteful docco's and, I'm told, the movie Casablanca. At least the volume was off and subtitles were playing. Apart from that it's so good I've just booked to take an old friend there on Friday night. Highly recommended.
On a recent trip to visit my boyfriend in Melbourne, he and I had gone to the movies and stopped in to Mosq for dinner after. We were met by the manager who sat us in a secluded booth and made us feel welcome and relaxed. The food was delicious and the wine (recommended by the manager) was a perfect match. The chocolate mousse proved too good and we had to order more! The liqour coffees were too strong and sadly we could not enjoy them. However, we plan to visit on my next trip over. Thanks again for a great night.
Popped in for dinner and drinks last night and had a fabulous evening. The mezze tasters were all delicious accompanied with rather nice NZ pinot gris. The atmosphere is excellent and the service from resident manager Dave exceptional, rock on Dave. Looking forward to returning to try the rest of the cocktail menu and a sheesha or two.
Mosq has a very exclusive atmosphere/theme. I loved each and every aspect of the restaurant. Awesome middle eastern food. We sat in one of the build in couch (relaxing area). It is very romantic and relaxing. The Moroccan Banquet to Share. The manager threw in a couple of extra tiger prawns in for us too.
In short, its a restaurant you must go. I am sure if you go there once you would be going back regularly.
I had driven past Mosq a few times and had always wanted to try it. So on the night of our anniversary I thought we'd book a table, although we didn't mention that when booking. It was a monday night so I knew it would be quiet. When we arrived, I noticed that there weren't many other people in the restaurant. I thought it was going be very uncomfortable and we wouldn't be able to relax. But I was wrong!
The manager had kept the place open for us as he knew we were coming. We were led to our own private little booth with cushions and were encouraged take off our shoes and relax. Which we did! The service was good and it was like we had our own waiter who did everything to ensure our night was great!
The cocktails were yummy and the staff very knowledgeable about the menu. We decided to order the shared plate for two which included chicken skewers, lamb kebabs, hummus, turkish bread, prawns, falafel balls, moroccan salad and chorizo. It was so delicious!
Very good value for money. The atmosphere is wonderful and the music makes you feel like you are in an exotic location! We will definitely be back.
