A typical Asian style restaurant, hole in the wall poorly decorated, people crammed in at tables, busy staff, and 4 guys cooking non stop in the kitchen!!! The entire 'atmosphere' can be seen from the street looking through the main window; all the meats are hanging from hooks here, but a glimpse past them shows the open kitchen which is always busy. Walk in the door and you have to squeeze right past the cooking action to get to a table. Make no mistakes about it, this isn’t a restaurant with atmosphere, it's an industrial strength eating production line! Orders are taken, food cooked, and placed on your table before you even sit down or take a look at a menu, and if you're anything like me then you'll have eaten the lot before the bowls stop spinning on the table. If you like your Chinese cooking fast, cheap and delicious then this place is worth a visit. Mains can be had from $6 and the serving sizes are generous.
The egg noodle soup with BBQ pork is consistently excellent here, I get mine with both BBQ pork and crispy pork, and the noodles are done how I like them, al dente. This dish must be eaten fast but for $6.50 with a pot of tea and a serve of chillies in soy sauce it’s a hard bargain to beat! Easily the best egg noodle soup I've had in Melbourne.
This shop prepares most of the meat for local restaurants (duck, BBQ pork, roast pork, chickens etc) and they have a second even bigger kitchen out the back where they prepare these specialties in huge quantities. They also sell to the public, so if you're partial to a bit of roast pork then its worth dropping in. The dishes using these meats (noodle soup with meat, rice with meat, dry noodles with meat etc) are the stars of this restaurant. They do more 'standard' dishes, but these could just as well be had at any Chinese shop.
You'll see mostly Asians eating here which is a good sign. Some of the staff can’t speak a zac of English, but it’s a quick, easy delicious eat.
