Best food, best ambience, best service and definitely best value. The staff are so sweet and the food was delicious. Carlos and Roy the owners definitely know how to run a restaurant. I give 10/10 recommendation.

The name of Lygon Street has come to a disappointment. To all its hype, I don't really find it delivers. Had pasta al pollo, very mediocre, the pasta was very very overcooked, a little bit sloppy.

Did come to this place spontaneously, and many reviews below are based on its pizza, which shamefully I did not try, so I cannot comment. The service was very friendly. Price, very typical for a hyped-up location. I would come back to try their pizzas.

Always choose Mercadante over any other Lygon St Italian. Servings are generous, food is delicious and such good value for money. The practical jokes add a little something extra to the experience!

Well we have just returned from another degustation tour of Melbourne. Visited Mercadente again (2 times in 3.5 days) and we were heartily welcomed with hugs/kisses and more lovely food/service.

Carlos has new and updated gags for the unsuspecting new customers (and yes, he got me... again), next time it will be me catching him - I swear!

Had a fantastic pizza with just about everything known to man on it and it was divine, Roy knows his pizza's. Kids had risotto, full of chicken and mushrooms and very tasty. The chocolate pizza still amazes, after 1 year of dreaming about it, its just so darn good. Every time we visit Melbourne, Mercadente is always the first place to be booked.

I absolutely adore Mercadante and I make sure we visit every time we fly down from Sydney. Carlos makes the place, his quirky tricks, cheeky humour and fast paced action really show what a difference can be made with a little effort. Many establishments can learn from him. Roy is equally funny but as he is the one making the pizza he's often behind the scenes.

I have in the past flown chocolate pizza back home to Sydney! How mad is that? Putting it bluntly, it's so damned good that after say a month you're really starting to dream about it (I've begged my local pizza joint to make it but so far they won't do it).

All the food is tasty, well made and very reasonably priced. You can design your own pizza (raised eyebrows from waitress) nothing will surprise Roy (even though I do try). Service is prompt and friendly, which is amazing because Mercadante is always busy. The head waitress is lovely and always remembers us, as do Carlos and Roy. Kids are well catered for with textas and paper table covers which can be drawn on.

I wish we had a place like this in Sydney, good food, fun, great atmosphere, excellent value for money and chocolate pizza.

We had very high expectations I guess, specially after reading so many positive reviews here. It was not anything but disappointment. We ordered only pizza so I cannot say anything about other dishes, but its quality was still below than what I was expecting. The value is very good though.

In some points my partner got a little bit angry with the service staff as two of them tried to be funny by making practical jokes which were quite inappropriate.
We will avoid them by all means in the future.

I recently visited Mercadante at Easter and the place was packed. We were lucky enough to get the table near the Pizza prep area where we saw Roy in action lovingly making the pizzas.

Carlos was running around entertaining/taunting the unsuspecting customers with his plate smashing then throwing routine. The food was very tasty and great value the staff very attentive and polite a pleasant change from Brisbane were I live.
We went back the next 2 nights we enjoyed the food so much trying loads of different dishes. The chocolate pizza dessert is absolutely delicious.

We will be back on our next to Melbourne for sure!

The restaurant was found to be well presented and the positive attitude of the floor manager contributed to selecting this restaurant. The entree of "Gnocchi" was delicious and the pizza was satisfactory. The main courses "Chilli Prawns" and "Prawn and scallop risotto" were a big disappointment to such an extent that dessert was sought elsewhere.

I have been to Mercadante on numerous occasions with my family. They are extremely kid friendly with paper and colouring pencils to keep the little one amused. The staff have fun with the kids which makes the whole experience enjoyable and very relaxing for all the family. Will be back again very soon.

Came here for pizza and pasta on Valentine's Day. The pizza was disappointing and flavourless. Not sure if they used cheap ingredients but it tasted like cardboard. Apparently they don't put salt in the base and the ingredients make up for it, however, the prosciutto and olives on the pizza made no difference. The pasta, however, was beautiful and very enjoyable. We were offered free coffees after advising them about the pizza but it was ok, as the pasta made up for it. Would come back again for a nice pasta. Good value for money too.

I visit this restaurant everytime I'm in Melbourne, it's always great food and good value. Very friendly staff. Took friends here in May when I was in Melbourne again and will be back next week hopefully. Can't wait.
