Really enjoyed this restaurant. The food was absolutely fresh and full of flavour (while a common dish, I absolutely loved their beef nasi nemak). Service was quick (same goes for the time taken to get the food on the table) and to top it all off, it only costed around $50 for the two of us (my partner and I) to eat until we could not eat anymore. Highly recommended place if you're eager to try some awesome Malaysian food.

Casual Asian Fast food. Good for a quick, hot meal when you're really hungry and short on time. Classic soup noodles, mix and matched from big vats of soup, different noodles, and minute servings of protein and veggies used as garnish.
Student waitresses bit more on the ball than the usual.

The receptionist told us that our food will be ready in 15 minutes but we waited for almost 1 hour. No apologies offered. So rude and disorganised.

What else to expect from ezard? Wonderful food, great service, and surprisingly cheap for the area.

This place is not much more than a hole in the wall with some outside seating areas. It is cheap and the food was surprisingly pretty good, especially the noodle dishes. Service is help yourself and don't expect real plates and cutlery, it is all of the takeaway variety but not a bad option if you are in the area.

I quite like this Nasi Lemak dish, the Beef Rendang which was the hero of this classic Malaysian dish was flavoursome and juicy tender but my only concern was not having enough of the condiments on the side to go with, I definitely need more of them especially those fried anchovies, they are just so addictive and the best companion ever.

Fantastic service, waiter very friendly, informative and attentive. Best Malaysian food I've had in a long time. The entree Otak Otak and Squid were both amazing and the Rendang Duck was also very good. Prices are more than fair for an upmarket Malaysian experience. I'll definitely go back.

Impressive ambience both within and outside. Good number of choices on the menu too. Most items were priced between $9-$12 making it an attractive place for lunch. I had nasi lemak before from a Malaysia restaurant but, here it pales in comparison. I felt the rice was a little under cooked. Chicken curry is faintly flavoured and gravy could have been a little thicker rather than watery. Servings are fairly filling and one can expect some extra toppings to complement/neutralize/accentuate the flavour.

My partner and I were trying to decide on a restaurant to take my family and extended family visiting from Paris for dinner on Monday 23rd January 2012. I had contacted a couple of friends in hospitality for some suggestions, and they highly recommended Ginger Boy. Working in hospitality myself, I trusted their opinion and made a booking for the 11 of us.
We were told that our table was ready in the upstairs dining table. Upon arriving upstairs, the waitress was quite abrupt and told us to wait in the sitting area as the table was not ready yet.
Throughout the process of looking through the menu and ordering, the waitress never smiled and was not friendly at all. The waitress who took over our table later in the night didn't even top up our water glasses and just stood in the bar polishing glassware. It being a Monday night, we were the only table needing service upstairs.
I actually went to the restaurant expecting to leave a tip as I understand that hospitality is hard work and rewarding, however, I didn't leave a tip as I thought that both waitresses were unfriendly and just didn't seem like they were happy to look after us.
I would expect that with the prices for the dishes, a friendly service would be the bare minimum for a restaurant like Ginger Boy.

Having been to many buffet, I have to say this deserve the award being 'The worst of the Worst'. Buffet restaurant but constantly run out of food. Everyone have only 1 plate to use throughout the whole meal, so you pretty much clean out your own excess food after use to be able to reuse. Foods is limited variety and pretty crappy even buffet standard. Soft drink so flat, it was served from a 2litre Coke bottle probably open few weeks ago. Desserts only brought out at the end and very limited, which mean if you happen to finish your meals early, you gotta wait for others to be able to have dessert. Even though I use vouchers for only half price, I feel being ripped off.

Stopped here for a quick bite on our way to the tennis. It was very stuffy and old inside, much like a small thai style restaurant.
The food was ok, cooked fresh to order with nice simple flavours. Not your 1st class dining, but not bad for a quick eat.

I would describe Straits as your run of the mill hawker style cafe close to what you'd find in Asia. The open kitchen + sound of wok/blazing oil, it's almost nostalgic. Service is prompt and friendly and I highly recommend the Char Kway Teow.

I am a Malaysian residing in Melbourne and I have been going to this restaurant for years. Let me be honest in saying the place does offer some decent Australian-Malaysian dishes in the menu, although sad to say, the taste quality do vary from visit to visit.
I agree with some of the poor reviews I've read on customer service as I often find the floor manager 'M', overly loud and abusive to staff. It's poor etiquette it reflects badly on the restaurant.

I've been to Laksa King plenty of times, just cause it was cheap and the laksa's pretty good, not amazing. They make decent spring rolls, and fried calamari. The last time I went I ordered beef with vegetables and black bean sauce, i fell ill within an hour. I would say this place is ok, totally over hyped, but i reckon fine if you want to get a quick laksa.
Careful what you choose other than that though.. Oh, and if there are two of you, the only two seat tables are next to service areas where waiters walk past all the time, so if you don't mind being bumped here and there that's ok, but otherwise it's better to go with at least three people.

The crispy chilli salt cuttlefish with lemon and roasted sesame is delish! Little coated, soft and subtle flavours. The lemon has a nice little coat on to keep the pips out – love that! The flavours are lovely and we are all happy tucking in!
Son in Law eggs with chilli jam and asian herbs – my first time ever! I love that our waiter takes us through the technique of how to eat this properly. Carefully explaining that we need to get lots of jam and herbs and then the whole thing in our mouth and pop the egg against the roof of your mouth with your tongue...

My family have been going to Malaysian Gardens for years. You wouldn't go there for ambience and the service varies but the food is always excellent and great value in my opinion. I haven't found a better restaurant of it's type in Melbourne.

The food in old town mamak is delicious and the price is quite reasonable, I did have a good supper at the QV old town mamak, but the table service is really bad... my friend did order a nasi briyani combo which is the curry chicken, rendang lamb... but the meat of the chicken curry is pinkish (the part is chicken thigh) and my friend couldn't chew it when we tell the supervisor he respond to us that the meat is actually cook... due to there is no blood appear... if the meat is over cook it will be dry... I found that quite funny and I ask him is that the raw chicken meat is pink colour and he feedback to us that I study cookery so the meat is cook... and he also tell me that don't be so rude. If any thing happened please come to complain me I am the supervisor at QV mamak store working hours from 6:00p.m. until 6:00a.m... haha what a good table service to the customer.
