I have never written a review about a restaurant but I felt so strongly about the meal I had last night at the Flower Drum that I felt I should warn others. This place is Totally overrated. We had the banquet which consisted of 6 bland under seasoned courses. The sauces had too much corn flour, the fried rice was dry and the presentation, there was none. It was such a huge disappointment, I have had better Chinese from my local takeaway in Sydney.
I am trying to comprehend how they justify the cost as the service was also lacklustre. The waiters were clearing plates away while some of us were still eating. Will never go back there again.

This has for many years been my favourite restaurant in Melbourne and I have taken many visitors there over the years, however, when there on Friday night for a birthday celebration, we could not have been more disappointed, not by the food, but the service, which was surely the most apathetic, disinterested and rude in all of Australia. No one seemed to care, we had to ask for our drinks 4 times before they finally arrived, half way through our main course. What a huge letdown for such a previously great restaurant. I am sure that Cath Claringbold would be very sad indeed.

2nd visit (1st 4 years ago) Not very impressed unfortunately. Booked for Mothers Day, was not told when booking that it was a set menu. Arrived and was told it was 'a set' after saying that I wasn't informed when booking and not particularly happy, was told that the senior staff would come and have a chat with me. That didn't occur.
The set menu was for 2 persons based on $42.00 per person, we paid $45 person plus drinks. Admittedly didn't check the bill till after paying. There was no separate bowl of olive oil (normally served at Greek restaurants for dipping). The dips though tasty were small in portion. The octopus was not tangy with lemon as expected. Which brings me to the point of having a set menu, what if people are allergic to certain foods, or come to a lunch with a budget? If I had been told, I would have gone elsewhere.
The baklava was burnt on the bottom. The corkage $4.50 per bottle (love that as we opened and poured our own drinks, so $4.50 for the cost of a glass on the table). All in all disappointed with the outcome. The way we show a restaurant we like it is to return, sadly we won't.

Peggy and her crew were involved in catering for 162 guests at my daughter's engagement just 2 weeks ago. Her quality service and looking after all guests and their tastes was something beyond description. All guests boasted so highly of the quality of all her food and they said they all will be going to her restaurant and using her for catering services in future.
Peggy is so innovative and listens to all special requirements as we had requested. I have not tasted such food provided by her in Australia as we have eaten at so many restaurants. Tonight we are going back to her restaurant. I would say to everyone who has not been to her restaurant to make a visit and try her cuisine cooked to your taste especially in hotnees. The Best Indian Restaurant in Australia.

We went on a gift voucher, so can only go by that! We thoroughly enjoyed what we ate for all 3 courses! Although they were short staffed, we could not complain of the lack of service, in fact I think because of that, they went that bit furthur to give us the best service. If I was paying cash, I would not like to pay the full price, but we enjoyed it, and the experience!
Should add, that the location was not easy to find, and that they do need to open it up more some how to draw attention!

Carlton Curry House ticks all the boxes. I went here with a large group of 15 and we all thought the food was outstanding. The prices are very reasonable and the servings are generous. The service is great, very friendly but not invasive. Upstairs caters for a large group. So if you’re into Indian food and would like to impress your friends, this is the venue for you!

Tried this on 30/3/2012. Worst food and service Ever, just 2 of us in restaurant when we first arrived ordered drinks, 10 minutes later to be told that they were out of condensed milk for the tea, chicken pandan was raw, (not part cooked) raw, we also ordered mixed platter, chicken skewers were raw, curry puff tasteless, they brought us the wrong soup order and soup arrived last when we requested it to be first. Never again.

Went to Mosq with some friends as I love the whole Moroccan theme after visiting the country a few years ago. Although the decor was gorgeous, that is pretty much where the pleasant experience stopped for us. I love tapas menus but found little to love about this one. The dips were plain awful, the kofte was bland and tasted like it had been made a week ago and the sweet corn fritters tasted like flour with some corn in it.
The cocktails we had were lovely but took a long time to arrive. One of the wait staff was very attentive and friendly, the other was bordering on rude.
Overall it was a fairly average experience and I won't be in any rush to go back.

I have been to a few Ethiopian restaurants in Melbourne and this is the most authentic restaurant that my Ethiopian friend talks of. He says it is as close to his mother's cooking as he can get.
I'd have to say that I prefer this place too. It's not greasy. Nice amount of spice. Great lentil and vegetable dishes. The meat dishes are yummy, especially the Doro Wat. The injera is fresh.
Some may compare Ethiopian food to Indian, it is nothing like Indian food. I find that I crave Ethiopian food, I don't with Indian. There is so many subtleties of flavour and texture that play out in Ethiopian food when it is well made.
Gosh, the subtle heat from the spice with the resistance and welcoming flavour of the meat. The creamy lentils and slight crunch in the vegetables all wrapped up in the mild sourness of the injera (like sourdough). And if you wanted a little bit of punch, the mitamita (powdered chilli) would definitely accommodate. This is quality Authentic Ethiopian food. And I always keep coming back time and time again to warm me up from a dreary rainy day in Melbourne. It is heavenly.

We were shown the menu upon arriving and decided on butter chicken ($12.50), Garlic naan bread ($2.50) and saffron rice ($2) to share between my wife and I.
The wait time for the food was a bit long considering there was only one other family in the restaurant at the time but was not unbearable. The Bollywood music set the scene for the authentic Indian feel but the interior decorating needs some interior decorating. Walls are empty and depressing.
Who cares about ambience when you're there to eat. You can't expect something like Dockland's Bhoj in Sunshine. When the food came out we got the butter chicken, Plain naan and Plain rice contrary to what we ordered. 1 correct item out of 3 isn't too impressive. Anyway, we decided to keep the naan and order another serving of garlic naan.
Food was good. Couldn't fault it. Quite orgasmic to be honest but butter chicken and naan does that to me. Problem was there were Three cubes of chicken in our main meal. Three! We were told this was normal. Normal for $12.50?
When we went to pay the butter chicken was actually $14 due to us eating dine-in! They conveniently showed us the take out menu and didn't tell us it was more expensive to eat in. I know it's normal but 14 / 3 = $4.67 per cube of chicken.
Never going back coz there's better and cheaper choices out there.

I took a group there on Valentine's Day. The glass of champagne arrived flat (obviously the dregs of a bottle opened hours or days earlier). Between courses, several of the waitstaff stood around with hands on hips long after our plates should have been collected. None of us will go there again.

Don't really understand the negative reviews. I have eaten there many times, and feel privileged to live so close to the restaurant, in a part of Melbourne which features minimally (an understatement) in any restaurant guide. The dosas are fantastic, I've had an amazing crab dish there on a couple of occasions, and in general, bar one or two mishaps (the soup was from a packet), it has been outstanding.
I love going there, and the place really does put most other Indian restaurants into the shade. The service also is not that bad.

I just want to thank every one who helped to make my night one of the best nights out I've ever had. The atmosphere was great with an outstanding service that suggested to have the devine seafood banquet. Trying it is an absolute must, the whole fish with the generous tahini topping, the scallops is amazing & the best of all is the king prawns with the fabulous fattoush salad ( traditionally made ). legends of almazette thank you again. Simply, I'm craving to be there soon.

Went to the Presidents Cup in Melbourne, so took the wife, and with out doubt the No 1 chinese restaurant in Australia. Asked the waiter for his recommendations and we were not disappointed. If you are number 1 it will cost you so no point in worrying. Down side the Amex numbers went to Canada the next day.

We purchased 2x vouchers from Deals.com and went with one other couple of friends. We were all looking forward to a great evening. Unfortunately, the restaurant is placed under an office building and has no real ambience, it felt like walking into a mediocre dining room.
Many dishes from the menu were not available ("they were busy yesterday...”). The senior staff of the place was rude and with no customer - centric relationship. The food was good, but no service to support the experience. 3 of us wanted eye fillet for main course but they ran out of this dish for tonight. Dessert was a small selection from the menu, as many dishes were not available... (yes - you've guessed it - "they were busy yesterday...”).
When we asked for 2 scoops of plain vanilla ice cream to go along with the sticky date pudding, we were told it would cost a little extra which we were happy to pay, however, they wanted $10 for 2 scoops of plain vanilla ice cream, not even homemade, interesting approach. I could buy 2 litres and get change for that price. So we sent it back untouched.
So, in conclusion, we would not recommend rushing there in a hurry. There are far better restaurants with excellent food and service, great ambience and friendly senior staffs.
