If 'The Sullivans' ever indulged in Sunday night take away Chinese, the Toy Yeon is the place that Terry would have pedalled his Malvern Star bike to to get it.
The food is spectacularly bad. The waiting staff seem surprised to see you and we laughed til we cried at just how far Asian cuisine has come since the gold rush ended. The cafe has an extensive Chop Suey selection, Marathon dim sums straight from the freezer and an extensive Australian meals offering that is gobsmackingly horrible to even think about. I haven't had this much fun not eating in a restaurant in a long time. Go there. Go now. If you dare.

I have never written a review about a restaurant but I felt so strongly about the meal I had last night at the Flower Drum that I felt I should warn others. This place is Totally overrated. We had the banquet which consisted of 6 bland under seasoned courses. The sauces had too much corn flour, the fried rice was dry and the presentation, there was none. It was such a huge disappointment, I have had better Chinese from my local takeaway in Sydney.
I am trying to comprehend how they justify the cost as the service was also lacklustre. The waiters were clearing plates away while some of us were still eating. Will never go back there again.

My partner and I went there a week ago for a casual dinner after just moving to the area. Food was incredible. I was told the specials don't change often but there are a lot of them so that's ok. We had a spicy salt calamari that was only $18 approx and it was enough to fill both of us. It was a really light batter and so crispy!
The service was pretty good. We also ordered a thai green prawn curry which was really light and the vegetables and prawns were really fresh. Best fried rice I have ever had too! I am going to try the banana fritter next time because the one of the table next to us looked mouth watering and we were told that they create their own maple syrup.
We were given complimentary prawn crackers and water and the girls seemed really nice. They took our drinks and food order with 15 minutes and cleared our plates as soon as we finished even though it was pretty busy.
The ambience needs some work but it's fine if you just want a casual dining experience. Going to be our local chinese joint!

Decided to try this place as it was recommended. Ordered the banquets and a few bottles of wine. Food was plentiful, tasty and well worth the per head. Delightful eggplant dish and amazing pickles! Ambience was subdued and comfortable with the service being top notch. Great restaurant, would recommend to others and will be back myself.

The receptionist told us that our food will be ready in 15 minutes but we waited for almost 1 hour. No apologies offered. So rude and disorganised.

Went for a Sunday morning yum cha with some mates. About 10 of us in a table. Service was disappointing. We asked about 10 times for some steam dim sims but they just kept telling us it's sold out or it's still being cooked. All was served to us was all the fried ones!
Food was okay not too bad but the lack of varieties that was available when we're dining was something that put off us a little.
A bit disappointed considering that some of my mates had been here before and they recommended us to come here as an alternatives of heading to the city.

Worst Chinese Food Ever! Have had way beter meals in a food court at quarter the price. Everything tasted reheated. Dried out and overcooked. Pork was like shoe leather. The special fried rice barely had anything but rice in it. Kid's juices were watered down. Slightly overpriced for mains but given how bad the food was then very overpriced. Was over charged by 25% on bill but only realised later in my hurry to leave (so partly my fault). Used to go when I was a child 30 years ago. Would never ever go back.

I have been here a couple of times for yum cha. Its nothing to rave about. Its cooked fresh to order. However, the list is not extensive and its expensive for what they are offering. Have not eaten here at normal meal times outside but all reports from friends and family say its quite nice. The service was excellent though. The restaurant was also very well presented.

The food here is consistently good. The restaurant is nothing fancy but it is neat and clean. We have been coming to Suzy Wong's for several years and we have never had a bad meal there. Can recommend it to anyone for both take away or eat in. Its probably worth noting they don't take Visa for delivery orders, they do have eft and visa facilities for pick up and eat in orders.
Delivery takes up to an hour on busy nights so be prepared for a bit of a wait, if you can get into the restaurant to pick up on those nights its much quicker. Oh and they are kid friendly.

Ordered dinner for delivery. Over 2 hours later, still nothing. At the 1.5 hour mark, we called to cancel and we got every excuse under the sun.
We knew from ordering before that the food was good, but the delivery service was slow. But not 2 hours slow! Definately won't be ordering from here again.

We'd had a number of reasonable Yum Cha excursions here: not as much variety as some other Yum Cha palaces, and some overcooked fried items, but a fair price. Dinner was another story, better quality food, but shocking, indifferent service. It's suburban and showing its age and I assume from the dinner performance that the owners have made their fortune, so don't care about return customers.

Over Priced Food. I'd rather go to Little Bourke St.(Chinatown) for real authentic Chinese food. Sorry to say, but I won't be back in a hurry.

We recently made a reservation and dined in for a birthday dinner at the Empress of China last weekend. From start to finish the whole experience was a bit of a disaster. Aside from the language barriers which made it difficult to make the booking, order and pay the bill (which was all written in Chinese), we didn't receive any table service for 20 minutes after being seated. After hunting down a waitress myself she then was very rude to us when trying or order drinks.
We were handed 3 menus for 13 people and when I approached staff to ask for me she simply told me they had no more. Main meals didn't arrive (or got mixed up) and then we had trouble interpreting the bill and needed assistance because we couldn't understand Chinese. The food, however, was very good and it is fantastic value for money. However, we won't ever go there again and won't be recommending it to anyone.

Absolutely love it here. I live down the road and come at least twice a week.
I may be bias as I've only ever ordered one dish, the chicken with dried chillies and cashews. I can't get enough of it. This dish is usually sickly sweet but I've never experiences that here. They give you disappointing loads of food for what you pay for!
I'm always greeted with a beaming smile and a glass of water. My one negative is they don't make their own roti. Love you guys, thanks for making my cheat nights awesome.

Have been to this place at least 20 times over the years. Twice in the past month and on each occasion I've been up all night with headaches and feeling very dehydrated. I don't think they used to use much Msg, if any but now it appears to be overloaded.
Add this to the fact that when we went last week, every dish we ordered was on the table within 3 minutes of placing the order. Most of the dishes are obviously prepared earlier, and only one or two dishes actually tasted hotter than warm. Won't be going back!

I think this is my favourite venue in the city. The floors practically burst with personality, and the staff are always eager to give you the lowdown on what each room was, and is designed to be.
I think the food has been better in the past, which isn't to say it isn't lacking a punch now, more that it has stepped back from chefs hat aspirant to comfortable 14.
Service is great, but I feel sorry for the staff member running food up and down stairs all night!
