Good was ok but did not honour the discount coupon, because they said it had changed hands. Manager was very arrogant and rude. Some wait staff tried hard, but the place was about as bad as it gets in Melbourne. I took a look over the serving counter into the kitchen... I wish I hadn't.

We went here for lunch last weekend and I came on to write a review and were surprised by the comments below. They must have lifted their game since November because we had a great experience.
The pizza was delicious - fresh ingredients, light fluffy base and Huge. The chicken/avo risotto was one of the best I've had, creamy deliciousness. I'm still drooling thinking about it!
The service was great. The only issue we did have was that we picked Max's because it was in the entertainment book and we were in the area only to be told at checkout that the previous management had put them in the book and they wouldn't honour the 15% but offered us 10%.. for the sake of 5% I thought they probably could have just done it and not somewhat tainted the experience. That said, we'll definitely return soon for more risotto and pizza!

To sum it up - Terrible! We thought we'd try the "new" Max's since it has had change of management and has been renovated. The service is still lousy and the food is worse! This is such a disappointment as the place has so much potential, but they just can't get it right.
My family and I went for breakfast this morning. After we had ordered, one of the kitchen staff came back and told my husband he'd have to order something else as they weren't doing that particular dish anymore. My breakfast arrived with two poached eggs, when I specifically asked for 1 and I was missing a side of spinach. The mushrooms were so overpowered with garlic, I couldn't eat more than a few and the whites of my eggs were clear, very undercooked. They forgot my son's breakfast so he had to wait for them to cook it while we tried to eat ours.
Their Chai Latte's are terrible, too sweet and syrupy, I couldn't finish it.
They also had a sign out the front (at breakfast time) saying "No alcohol passed this point" - such bad grammar, made me feel like I was in a real classy joint!

Recently, decided to try this place out for lunch, should have thought twice. First off, the service was appalling. I tried to catch the eye of the waitress, but she kept looking away from me.
Drinks: Ordered a lemon squash and received a dented can with a straw. Also, ordered a Camomile Tea that took 20 minutes to come out and was stone cold.
Food: Ordered Chicken and Lentil Soup, it looked ghastly! The presentation was also terrible. The bread that came with it was supposed to be 'warm', but it was cold and stale. We also ordered Calamari with Aioli sauce, but they were more like 'chunky nuggets' with mustard sauce, disgusting! I wouldn't go there again if you paid me.

My wife and I decided to go to Maxs as we had a 25% off coupon. Even though we had this coupon we still left feeling like we had been ripped off some what. We were given water while we decided what we would order. The glasses were dirty(inside and out) and it was difficult to concentrate on the menu due to all the flies buzzing around our table.
First glance of the menu the drinks didn't appear to be too different in price compared to other restaurants. We ordered a Vb ($5.50) and a glass of sparkling wine ($5.00). First up came our "special brushchetta of the day" ($11.00), 3 thick dry pieces of round toast with uncored tomato quaters, ricotta cheese and herb sauce (obviously from a tube).
Nothing special very bland and messy. Next came the tasteless, flat lasagna($17.00) with a few stips of parmesan on top. This was enough. We left feeling hungry, unhappy and wondering about the cleanliness of the kitchen, hoping there were less flies in there compared to the dining area. Although we did get a discount if we had known in advance we would have gone elsewhere.

Recently did a Sunday lunch with the family. Most people were there doing breakfast and coffee. Good atmosphere. Generous sized servings of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Excellent garlic bread, which is done on a thin pizza base, with olive oil, garlic, into the pizza oven, then sprinkled with parsley.
Reasonably prompt service and didn't have to wait that long for food, although were the only ones doing lunch at the time. Used our entertainment book voucher which they were happy for us to reuse for next time. See their web site at:
