Match is a decent spot for a drink on a Friday night. Nothing special or over the top but still a busy atmosphere to bring in the weekend. The outdoor area provides something that little bit different and a nice view over the green lawns of the state library early in the evening.

Apparently, The Match has an extensive drink and bar menu! gah! No wonder I see so many people dressed in their office wear standing around the balcony almost every day.

Having recently been back to match it seems to be under new management. Staff are friendly, well informed and make great drinks. Food seems more informal and cheaper than before.

I went to Match Bar for a couple of quiet after work drinks on a Thursday. The staff were rude and pretentious. I paid $16 for a mediocre cocktail that with just one single shot of standard alcohol in it. My advice to anyone thinking of going there: there are far better bars in Melbourne with both better drinks and service for that type of price.

I went here for the first time last night for my birthday and going away party, I reserved a table for 16 people at 8 pm, the table was ready at 8:17 pm, I really dislike places that cannot be punctual. The service was awful, the waiter kept yelling at us "what drinks do you want?" like we are farm animals in the zoo. Not only that, my friends were racially discriminated by the security guy at the door for not having Australian IDs (we are not Australian citizens) and commented on the color of my friend's skin.
The manager, Alex was no help either, did not want my friends inside after I already booked the place, it was a disaster. They eventually went in, just to get even more racially discriminated, average food, very poor customer service. The other waitress looked like she'd rather skin herself than be at work, and not once did the manager come past to even check how we are going for the night. We paid $400 for racial discrimination, average food, poor service and unethustiastic barmen. Never again.

I was surprised that this place was so empty at lunchtime on a Friday (we had a table of 14 but there were only three other tables of 2 or 3 people dining and no one in the bar area). It's a great space, with a relaxed, chilled ambience. The food was great, simple but delicious and not too expensive. The drinks on the other hand were quite expensive with a bottle of wine starting at $55! My only other gripe was that the waitress seemed to have a bit of attitude in the beginning, but she did seem to thaw out after a while. This venue definitely has possibilities, but possibly needs better marketing.

I don't mind paying for a nice night out but the food and drinks don't really delight, the burgers are average and thus over priced. I think we were served the most dismal french fries in my entire life, basically there were about 7 fries and they were overcooked and brown and $6. I was left wondering 'how hard is it to cook chips?'
The drinks fare a little better, though the bellini, essentially half a champagne flute of champagne poured over fruit puree (which I couldn't really taste) was a little overpriced at $16. The only thing that sees me returning to Match is the gorgeous urban sky-line feel. I would recommend skipping the food and just order basic drinks in the bar section.

I had a lovely dinner with some great cocktails here last week. The girl looking after us at our table was really friendly and informative and I'm looking forward to going back soon.
