We went on a Sunday at lunch time. The service was friendly and fast (we had a group of 10), the margaritas were delicious (strawberry particularly!) and the food was possibly the best Mexican I've had. Prices aren't cheap but I'd definitely go back. Try the shredded pork.
Lovely food in a nice little intimate environment. The servings are large so you will not leave hungry. Good tequila list and they make a quality mango margherita. A laidback sort of place that doesn't take itself too seriously, drinks come straight away but food can take a little while. You should always make a booking as I have heard of friends being unable to get a table on occasion.
This is the only authentic Mexican restaurant in Melbourne, far away from the American interpretation of Mexican food most people knows. I had a big group of people (25) booked in advance and pre ordered, that made a big difference. Menu chosen was a taquiza (number of dishes to share with tortillas to wrap) which make all my friends roll themselves out of the place $28 each.
Tacos de borrego (slow cooked lamb) and tacos al pastor (pork grilled and marinated in spices) are fantastic!!!. Place is packed so sometimes is faster to find your way to the bar and get your own drink. What I noticed was that the manager was really nice to his staff, that is gold.
Only one word: Reservation! I didn't had one and I was sent at the back in the garage. Place was still nice. This is the best mexican (Authentic) food I've ever had. Ambience was ok. Service was perfect and friendly. For the value, well, expect 18-25$ for a main meal/person. The portion is fair, I was not hungry after. Corkage is 6$/person (1 bottle x 2 persons = 12$ to drink booze...). The place opens at 06h 30pm and not 06h 00pm, beware. I loved the place, I will go back but I will drink my wine at home instead. The place was lovely!
The most authentic Mexican food I have found so far in this city. The ingredients used and the way the food was prepared was more than I had expected from a Mexican restaurant in Melbourne. The flavours and aromas instantly brought me back to my journeys throughout Mexico and I was not at all disappointed.
I recommend the entree platter for two (comfortably shared between four people) and the sangria. They have gone against all traditions and infused the sangria with cinnamon, giving it a Mexican twist. My friends each had green and red enchiladas, which they enjoyed and I had taquitas de pollo, the kind of food one would enjoy under a palapa on the beaches of Acapulco. Staff were friendly, helpful and chatty.
Tried it twice and both times extremely disappointed. This restaurant has a tiny kitchen space maybe accounting for the slowness of the meal to finally arrive. When it did the food was really ordinary. Maybe I am being harsh as I am comparing it to Thai food (my favourite cusine) but there is no excuse for the bad service. I think this restaurant can only cater for groups of 2 to 4 only, any more and they don't have the ability to cope.
