I stayed overnight at Rydges last Thursday and dined alone (book in hand, of course). I got a complimentary glass of the house white (which was a lovely Semillon Chardonnay). The menu offered interesting and varied options and I deliberated some time over what to order. I ended up selecting an entree size serve of the Three Mushroom Risotto and the Rack of Lamb.
Mercifully, the risotto came as an appropriately sized dish (sometimes I find even the entree size too large). But this was perfect and the taste an absolute sensation. The rack of lamb was tender and wonderfully flavoursome. I was deliberating over whether or not to check out the dessert menu, but, unfortunately, having asked the waitress to "give me five" to let my main meal settle, I never saw her again, so I decided to give it a miss.
All in all, the food was rather impressive, particularly for a "motel restaurant".

We stayed at the Rydges Melbourne which is the hotel for this restaurant, we had breakfast at Locanda only, my husband had the full buffet and he was in heaven, a good variety of hot and cold foods, eggs made to order, pretty much one of those 4star buffet's, I on the other hand opted for a'lacarte dining for my breakfast, although not a lot to choose from on the menu, it was sufficient enough to get a decent and reasonably priced breakfast, I had the vegetarian omlette, I can recommend it was really nice, as were the staff cooking, really nice people.
It's a shame that Rydges don't offer discounts for dining for hotel guests, but I suppose you can't ask for everything. I would recommend this restaurant for breakfast definitely, and I would recommend Locanda Bar for drinks, lovely little spot on a Saturday afternoon, although it can get a bit busy as it is in the Theatre district.

My partner and I dined here for our four year anniversary and I must say I was a little disappointed.
Food - for an entree I ordered a "calamari salad" with calamari, radicchio and a balsamic reduction. I was disappointed, the calamari were rubbery and so fishy. The reduction was divine but I could only put it on my bread due to the calamari being so overbearing. My partner ordered a chickpea soup with duck liver ravioli. The soup was divine very creamy and not at all too rich. The ravioli was a bit tough and undercooked for my liking, and the liver was creamy and not too gamey.
For my main I ordered chicken wrapped in pancetta on mashed pumpkin. The chicken was delicious, the pancetta a little too tough and I have definitely had better for the same price. My partner had osso bucco which was divine. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone, and the sauce was so rich and thick, not too salty as is common in other places.
Ambience - seeing as this place is at the bottom of a hotel, I wouldn't expect a quiet evening. The restaurant is attached to a bar which gets quite busy on a Friday night with 20-something corporate types who are out for a rowdy drink. Although the table was candlelit and set beautifully.
Service - our waitress was very attentive, she explained everything carefully and was at our beck and call. She even spent a very long time trying to procure a cocktail menu for us. Value - for the price we paid, this was not good value for money. I have had far better for this quite expensive meal.
