With panoramic views of the CBD and Victoria Harbour, there's no mistaking what's on the menu at Livebait. Feast on fresh seafood full of Mediterranean flavours with a South American influence – oysters, crayfish, prawns, mussels, snapper, tuna, swordfish, … the list goes on.
Sitting out on the balcony positioned right above the water, you can truly appreciate this special location which only enhances your dining experience.

We made a booking for 10 people at 8pm, arrived 5 minutes earlier, they made us wait for 15 minutes to set up a table. We have requested the table near the bay views, but they provided near the kitchen, even though when we mentioned our preference during the booking (a week ago).
The food was disappointing, no flavour at all. We ordered scallops with cauliflower puree for entree, the scallops were overcooked and the color was dark brown. Prawns for mains, don't bother trying this dish.
Livebait another Docklands nonsense. I will never go back.

I ate here with my wife on the our annual getaway (from the kids). We had a booking at 8, on our arrival we were told they would need 2 minutes to prepare our table, 20 minutes later when a waiter came to ask if we would like a drink, we said we would like to be seated and eat. Finally we were seated at a table that had been vacant the entire time we were waiting.
On to the food we decided on 2 entrees and the feast as this seemed to give us a good range of seafood. The Entrees were very nice, the feast is not worth the $70 per person (which is not overly highlighted). I then managed to fit in a dessert which was also very nice.
The Maître d is the lowlight of the evening with him telling all people that it would only be a short wait (we discussed this with others that got heated while waiting). In all we will not be back.

Exceptional! A perfect evening from the moment we walked in, until we left. The whole baby snapper was cooked to perfection and wonderfully presented. My partner had the seafood linguine, which was delicious. The flavours were delicate and the seafood was delightfully fresh and plentiful. Cannot recommend Livebait highly enough! Definitley one of the best seafood restaurants in Melbourne. Great views, great food and great service. (Thanks Emmanuelle for your attention to detail and recommendations).

Dined in for a group of 20 on a weekend and were told that we had to order off a set menu.
Entree calamari was too salty. Took them 1.5 hours to bring out our mains and the steak was cold, burnt and overdone when we ordered them medium rare, the mushroom dressing on them were inconsistent with some being burnt and some not cooked at all. Chicken dish had too much pepper. The only saving grace were the cakes that came after (which didn't need the kitchen staff to actually cook it, maybe that's why it was good).
We were there from 730 and only managed to leave at 1130. Ruined our whole night and all the manager could say was we're sorry. No compensation offered.
And of course, for the food quality, it definitely was overpriced. Not recommended.

My family ate here recently, they lost our main courses, then presented ordinary food on cold plates, then when we had finished, cleaned up the plates on the empty table beside us and left us looking at our dirty dishes. Also very noisy crowd with many children and babies, probably because of the fireworks on Friday nights and children's special offer.

We visited LiveBait recently in the Docklands area after viewing their website. Being seafood lovers, we were very excited by the menu and the seafood platter. Upon arrival, we found the menu to be very limited and no seafood platter! Disappointed, we ordered a prawn and oyster main as an entree and mussels. Both were quite disappointing. Mussels lacked flavour and the prawn and oyster entree were deep fried and still oily.
Mains were not much better, the steaks were small, a pasta linguine lacked flavour and the thai hot pot was similar to eating instant noodles with chunks of seafood. Everything was overly salty and did not have that extra special something you would expect that the prices LiveBait was charging, desserts, disappointing again.
The complimentary bread at the beginning of the meal was cold and stale. The only good things that could be said about Livebait was the view and our waiter, Alice was quite good. No wonder half the patrons we saw quickly ate and then left. A very overrated restaurant that should be ashamed of itself for charging the absurd prices for the quality of the meals. We definitely do not recommend this restaurant.

Being in the industry I had hoped when friends insisted we eat there, Livebait had employed wait staff as opposed to the rude and redundant service staff they are now so famous for. But a trip to the restaurant would not be complete without the u.n meeting in the kitchen. I wish venues would either have closed kitchens or insist their staff have a minimum level of personal hygiene and clean uniforms. High prices with dishes that do not deliver! I would recommend hiring qualified chefs not filling the kitchen with students hoping to get permanent residence.

Can't comment on value as I didn't see the bill but the food, the service, and the atmosphere was great. Had a steak (bit small for me) and a gnocchi dish for entree. Both were excellent. Gnocchi dish was exquisite, had a nice taste and after a second would hit you with another great flavour. Matridee guy with the moustache is awesome, very nice, polite and funny. Knows when to come over and knows when to leave your group alone.
