My husband and I went there and really enjoyed the food and the service. We were able to eat in peace with no nervous checking, the pace between courses were definitely not rushed, the timings were well paced, and pretty quick when you know they only have a small kitchen and the team are husband (chef) and wife (dining room). Overall an extremely pleasant evening, that was allowed to be intimate and special with discreet service and well prepared and seasoned food.

The food is gorgeous. I had beef burgundy, was very tender and tasty. The Grand Marnier souffle was soft and light. The restaurant was full, almost overfull. They had to squeeze in a chair at our table, so the door oened onto it. Unfortunately, the service was appalling. The owner was patronising, the waitress was very helpful and apologetic, yet ineffective. The wait between main and dessert was an hour, which I think is appalling for a table for 2.

They need to stagger their dinner sttings better. Communication about the hold-up would have been beneficial too. We were about to walk out. Won't be returning.

A true gem, albeit in a former frock shop, opposite the end of a tram line. Located at 330 Waverley Rd, East Malvern (the closest corner being Darling Road). They have very comfy seating, good spacing between tables, perfect lighting level. Cost is reasonable for the quality of the food; I would class this as mid-range. Food never disappoints here. Chef John is a true wizard creating food with care and passion. A great local if you're lucky enough to be cashed up to live within walking distance (alas, I am not!!).

Great favourites, start with the (E) Tasting Plate, (M) onto the Confit of Kyneton Duck (never a duck had to match it anywhere in over 15yrs!!), finish with (D) the Floating Island dessert for something light. If in for a boozy night go for the Grand Marnier Soufflé - you won't be disappointed. End the night with tea/coffee and "little bleeders". The coffee is brewed, don't moan if you want a weak skinny latte or an affogato, off you go to Acland Street my arrogant little treasure!

Expect a long pause between courses; good things come to those who wait!! When in the company of good friends, with good wine, a wait is totally irrelevant. Talking of beverages, this diamond permits BYO table wine, corkage is minimal compared to most these days. A good selection of wines for those that don't bring their own or for those merry guests that consume all of their own!

I personally mourn the fact that the Chocolate Soufflé hasn't been on offer for over a decade. Temperamental little mongrels. (The soufflés!!)

    Best suited to:

    * You and your besties - I suggest that one doesn't drive.

    * Intimate family gatherings eg. your sister's 40th/50th - leave the kiddies at home (not a-la-Lynch's...just being sensible my loves).

    * Couples truly in love - if not truly in love, you'll run out of things to say between courses. Trust me I've been there, done that!!

    Suggested: Book well in advance.
