Laksa King Flemington, Melbourne

Laksa King is the perfect place to go for a quick, reasonably priced and tasty laksa, noodles and other Malaysian and Chinese dishes. Hot and delicious laksa can be enjoyed eat in or takeaway. This Malaysian staple of veggies, chicken or seafood swimming in steaming hot liquid is comfort food for a lot of foodies.

In the renovated Laksa King, people dine on long communal tables, generating a mess hall feel. This gives an impression that the place is always packed, and yes it almost always is. This is a high turnover dining restaurant before. Now that is has transformed into a brighter and cleaner restaurant, Laksa King continues to attract laksa and noodle fans in droves.

Best Laksa I've had in Melbourne, right up there with Sydney Laksas.

Good: great food, somehow they managed to keep their standard pretty consistent over the years. Curry chicken and beef rendang are pretty darn good.

Bad: Always crowded! And you might have to share tables with strangers.

Ugly: Nothing fancy about the ambience. But hey, if it's meant to remind you of Malaysia/Singapore street dining, they've nailed it.

Great food and service. The crowds milling around outside detract from the experience somewhat when you're actually inside eating though. This was more expensive than I remember from previous visits, but the price wasn't outrageous.

Prices are not too bad, not cheap, not expensive - Big serves though. The flavor is pretty good, but the blend of spices is just a little off in my opinion. Still overall this is a good place to eat and I'd go there again.

True Malaysian hawker experience, service slow, decor plain, food excellent..especially laksa, nasi lemak and mee goreng. I eat here weekly. After reading soothers reviews I have visited the Laksa King on 3 occasions and have checked with 2 friends who also go at least monthly and have spoken to the chef.

Overall there have been some teethings problems but now seem to have settled. Current chef trained old chef and food is back to standard. New staffs have also settled in. Additionally, it has become so popular so some mistakes were inevitable but now back on track. Highly recommended.

I used to be a big supporter of Laksa King until their recent change of management. Most of the old Malaysian girls were gone now, replaced by some from China. The service was not as personal and warm as before. Food still comes quickly though and taste good. I've noticed out of the two chefs, one was gone replaced by a bigger guy.

Out of the eight dishes we ordered, half weren't up to their previous standard, the dishes were just not quite the same and some have less ingredients now, especially signature dish salted fish fried rice. You can hardly find the main ingredients, it's basically just plain fried rice with veggie. It used to be one of our family's favourite haunt, not anymore, will probably look for somewhere else.

Street food your style? This place rocks. The roti chanai is the best in Melbourne, you'll probably want to eat more than one. The noodles and freshness is great. Friendly too.
