Small cosy and unpretentious restaurant in one of Melbourne lane ways that serves surprising good food.

Recently spent a long Mother's Day weekend in Melbourne with my daughter. When we discovered La Citta on the Sunday we were blown away by the amazing breakfasts we ordered. They serve the best Spanish scrambled eggs and eggs Benedict. We enjoyed it so much we had to return next day and swapped the orders. There is no doubt it will be one of our first stops when we visit Melbourne again! Highly recommend you try it!

I don't quite understand the earlier comment about "prices are more restaurant than cafe level". The relevant issue is whether the prices are appropriate to the food, especially since the place actually describes itself as a restaurant.
That said, we always go to La Citta when in Melbourne. Despite the presence of a lot of hard surfaces, it's very quiet and intimate. Although not overly experimental, the food is expertly prepared, and that's a large part of the attraction, potato croquettes that are light, fluffy and flavoursome, perfectly-cooked risotto, etc. The wines aren't inexpensive, but the ability to buy a large selection by the glass encourages you to experiment. The maitre d'/sommelier is both knowledgeable and friendly, one of the few restaurant people I would trust to make an objective recommendation on food and drink.

Surprisingly good quality food and extensive wine list by the glass. However, prices are more restaurant than cafe level. We did noticed a few people come and sit down and leave again after reading the menu. Overall we loved it.
