The yakatori chicken skewers are succulent and tasty followed by an assorted seasonal vegetable tempura, asparagus, lotus and sweet potato are nice and crispy and light.

It took us a couple of weeks to get in, and finally managed to get a booking for a Monday night. We scored a booth, but different seating arrangements all look interesting and would have been happy on the mezzanine or the long table.

We had a couple of draft Sapporo beers to start, and then ordered about 8 of the small shared dishes which ranged in price from $6 -16. Also had some sake, chosen from a very extensive menu with help from our waiter.

Overall the food was good, well cooked and presented and flavoursome without being really exceptional (except for the tufu which was magic). This is not the place to go for a slap up dinner, because the servings are small and very delicate.

The waiter who served us was extremely helpful, and clearly developing his knowledge of sake. Kumo is a very worthy addition to what is becoming one of the best eating strips in Melbourne, and I look forward to returning with friends soon.

I loved Kumo! We sat on the communal table, which I thought would be a bit weird, but it was great to see what everyone was eating and feel part of the buzz. We tried some sakes and were advised on what to order as some dishes are heavier than others, we got a good mix of large and small and the sashimi was amazing. So was the tofu tempura, which was agedashi tofu.

We got the number 1 tram there and then afterwards went to a few bars, The Alderman was great. Lots up there. Try some sake and ask the waiters for advice. The people next to us seemed to get lots of small things, which could be expensive. Food was so so good. Yum.

Dropped in for an early dinner on a Saturday night, no booking and were told they were booked out but we could eat at the bar, which we did. However, we would have preferred a table but they wouldn't budge even though we assured them we would be very quick.

The food was lovely, service good and ambience fantastic. Didn't drink any alcohol, but the drinks list looked amazing. We left before lots of the tables were filled, so the only criticism I have is that they could have let us site at a table.
