The food was excellent, as was the service but the prices are a little on the high side.

A pleasant lunch, though not outstanding enough to warrant the recent fawning media attention. Scallops beautiful, garigoule of vegetables overcooked, bouillabaisse well flavoured, though short on fish, dessert reasonable. Service more attentive, though not stretched on a moderate day.

9th August 2008 - The double cooked blue cheese souffle was exceptional, the rib eye underwhelming but the potato gallette with thyme super, the pain perdu truly excellent. Poor coffee.

An unintended deception in the wine list marred the lunch. Unlike our white, and virtually every wine I have ordered in Melbourne for the past decade, the $156 red was opened before we were shown the bottle! After tasting, and realising the deception, I pointed out that the wine was clearly not "as advertised" and that the wine list should be amended. There was no offer of exchange.

I must admit that this is one other French Restaurant that I just do not understand.
The taste of the food wasn't very well prepared, it's just not tasting as it has the potential to be. I am confident I could go into the kitchen and cook exactly the same dishes and it would come out tasting better.

Desserts is also a dead-given. Unimaginative and not worth the price, I fail to see the hype about Koots. Here I tried a lot of things and none were even up to expectations, let alone surpassing my already unbiased nor critical expectations.

Sensational food - different, daring, exciting and served in pleasant and comfortable surrounds. Great service and overall, reasonable value for money although the price of a couple of dishes when compared with the size, taste and quality of the serve, left me scratching my head.
