Kananook Creek Boathouse, The

Upon arrival we were offered a choice of where to sit to suit our preference. We chose to sit outside on the pontoon, surrounded by trees alongside the creek. It was a warm and sunny evening and the sun was setting. The sound of the water feature trickling by was peaceful and soothing. Perfect! Service was quick, friendly and responsive.

Food was imaginative, tasty, well presented and well prepared. Prices are, perhaps, a little high. But it was quite an idyllic evening altogether and we look forward to going back.

Having not been there since 2007 I was looking forward to having a meal there. What a disappointment!

The service was extremely slow and the $32 meal looked more like a "Picasso on plate". It was lukewarm and took eons to arrive. The restaurant was very very cluttered and noisy. My main problem with the Boathouse was the portion, more like a small entree portion. We left feeling hungry and unsatisfied. Plenty of other restaurants in Frankston, won`t be going back to the Boathouse.

Recently visited this old favorite after its refurbishment by the new management and was delighted we did so. The restaurant re-opened last week and is looking fabulous. Our meals we're excellent and served by friendly staff. Enjoyed my visit so much I booked my work xmas function to be at the boathouse!

Went here for an afternoon tea. We ordered the plate of dips to share, a coffee for my partner and glass of wine for me. The coffee was below average. Two of the three dips were so disgusting we couldn't eat them and the glass of wine tasted like the bottle had been open for too long. The view of the creek from the back verandah was nice, but the quality of the food and the prices aren't worth it. Would recommend you stay away from this one.

I went here for the first time maybe 3 months ago. I called to reserve a table for a Sunday night at 8 pm. The person I spoke to asked me to make it earlier ad they liked to close up early on Sunday nights since it was usually quiet. I thought that was strange, other than that the food was Ok.

My co-orkers and I went here for our Xmas lunch on Tuesday. We had good memories of the place from our Xmas do in 2007 and thought we'd go again. What a disappointment. Food was okay, but not fabulous. Very slow service, and then the ultimate sin in hospitality: the service staff were terse and surly! We won't be returning.

Excellent food in a unique setting. The service although silver is spoilt by slowness in the kitchen, floor staff very good. Worth a visit for a special night out or for business lunch.

Went here for fathers day breakfast, not only did we have to wait over 45 minutes for breakfast even though restaurant was nearly half empty but when I got my meal I found several hairs in it and so I returned it and they brought me a "new" plate which was the exact same meal minus the hair. Food came back cold and tasted rubbery.. Not fresh at all. Another person at my table got his meal but only had 1 egg not 2 eggs and when he got his meal back there was also several hairs and food was cold again.

$10 corkage per bottle is too expensive. Pre-prepared sauces reheated and served cool/warm was not my idea of fine cuisine. Not impressed overall. It has certainly gone downhill since the last time I dined there 10- 12 months ago.

I wouldn't recommend the Boathouse to anyone. Be warned.

I was given a $100 gift certifcate for my birthday in September last year. I called the Boathouse and was told I had 1 year to use it. About 10 months later we decided to use the gift certificate to celebrate our engagement. Upon arriving and displaying my gift certificate I was told I couldn't use it because the business had been sold and the new owner refused to honor it. As a consequence we ate somewhere else that night and will never visit the Boathouse again.

I should mention that we never ate at the Boathouse and, therefore, can't give food, ambience and value scores, however, I was forced to score these items before I was able to submit this warning to other potential Boathouse visitors.
