Good portions, cheap food. I recommend going when Indo-Chinese is on Friday-Sunday at dinner times. Chicken and egg fried rice is very good! Dal Makhani and Biryani is great too (and a lot better than some higher prices restaurants).
For the price, if you need a cheap meal to fill you up this is the place to be. I have been there easily 50 times over the past 2 years and I can say that sometimes the food is awesome and on occasions you can walk away disappointed. It is worth a try especially for the price.
Have been a few times and have become a bit suspicious about the naan bread. Sometimes it is the best you could have. Light, fluffy, crunchy. Other times it can be chewy as if it were leftovers. Went here on Thursday after a show in town about 3.30 pm. The naan and puri were awful. The salad insipid. I think I have now confirmed that the naan can be "2nd hand" if you go when it is not busy. The puri had gone cold and looked (and tasted) as if it had been fried again!
Give this one a miss in quiet times. One waitress in particular could take happy lessons and maybe smile a bit. With so many other eateries in Melbourne it is off my list now. Tragic! Next!
Cafe style Indian. I had the goat rogan josh which was uninspiring, the sauce being sweet and loose instead of a nice thick rich tomato/onion paste. The accompanying naans were nice though. Price was low (10 bucks for curry and 2 naan), service functional, ambience indifferent. Not one I will revisit.
Our booking was for 6, made the day before. No problems getting a table - we ended up in the upstairs dining room. Ambience was great - no mistaking we were in a cheap and cheerful Indian curry establishment (which was exactly what we were after). Triffic!
Food - excellent, Service - the same. Definitely worth a return visit or six.
General comment from all (this was a first time visit for everyone) was that it was far better than expected. We all left happy with the experience.
I had a booking here last for a table of 16. We arrived at 7.30pm...it took the wait staff almost a hour to even take our order, we were upstairs with no music (apparently the dvd player had broken) and confused wait staff who didn't appear to know what was going on (even arguing with each other in front of us).
Two hours after arriving our food finally arrived at 9.30pm - brought out haphazardly and pretty much dumped on the table and left for us to figure out what was what. The food was ok - not great, just ok. I acknowledge the food is inexpensive (av. $8 main) however that doesn't excuse incredibly bad service.
I was embarrassed to have been the person responsible for booking dinner for that many people at this restaurant - considering how many other good restaurants there are in Melbourne.
