Lunch on a beautiful cold winter day under the heater outside. Good service throughout. Food served on warm plates. Risotto "funghi di bosco" tasted good but appeared to contain only standard button mushrooms. John Dory fillet (a "special")looked scrumptious and was OK but the flesh was that of a fish caught a good while ago. Tira misu was excellent, not too rich. Left with mixed feelings.

The appeal of this restaurant was the lack of sprookers together with the smaller size of the Restaurant. The owner loved to talk about how he didn't like the other restaurants for various reasons and the staff spoke of how they didn't really enjoy owner. Nice.
Ordered pasta. It arrived overcooked and hard. Ordered a $37 dollar eye fillet medium rare. Received the steak well done. The staff did offer to cook a second one. Owner said he would tell off the kitchen staffs.
When we went to pay bill we were surprised to see two Ricotta Balls costing $15.50 as they were offered as more of a tasting than an actual meal. Checked the rest of the bill and it was wrong. Incorrectly calculated and overcharged for the pasta as it was an entree not a main.
I do not recommend this restaurant at all. There is something to be said for going to a restaurant that had no-one in it versus busy restaurants around it.

This was one of the best Italian restaurants in Melbourne, when the current owner first took over sometime in 2007. The food really was superb. Great, authentic Italian food. Nowadays, it's gone a little downhill, with many chef changes and from what I've heard it's a bit hit and miss. I don't mind paying for good food, and this place is not cheap, but not that expensive either.
The food used to be so authentic and fantastic that you'd think you were in Italy. I'd know, I have an Italian background. When the food was good, the place was great value. I've been there a few times, but on a couple of occasions I did feel ripped off, because the quality had disappeared. Service quality went missing too. What happened? The passion has gone. Still an ok restaurant, and probably still one of the better ones in Hardware Lane but not like it used to be.
I hope they sort out the kitchen with a proper Italian chef, and employ some decent staff that are more attentive and skillful instead of hiring backpackers!
Disappointing to see such a good restaurant go down like this. Hopefully it will come back. I might just go one more time.

Loved this very Italian restaurant, the food was tasty and imaginative. We asked the waiter to recommend a good red and he chose an excellent Sicilian that was reasonably priced. The staff were very attentive and prompt with their service. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Mushy gnocchi and very small servings mixed with high prices, what a rip off! Also, we had to order our wine and meals at the same time or else we would never have been served. I also had to get up and fetch my own parmesan. Simply, a horrible restaurant, we won’t back.

Dined in this beautiful restaurant Saturday 5 July. Left sitting at table with no menu, had to ask for one. Had to ask for wine list after food order taken. Not once did they pour wine. Had to get up & walk to the bar to get grated cheese. After dinner never offered tea or coffee or a dessert menu.
Service was non-existent. Waitress started walking away without writing our order down before finished ordering. They charged $25 for vegetarian gnocchi which was so soggy, fell apart & tasted like mashed potato. The serving was so small we walked out & went onto Chinatown to get some more food.
The bill was huge, the food was terrible and the service was diabolical. This restaurant should be absolutely ashamed to continue in this manner.
