Had an awesome breakfast and coffee at ICE. A few twists to the breaky menu which were pulled of well. I peeked at the lunch and dinner menus and will be back to try the selections on there. Great atmosphere with friendly and cute staff! The regulars are onto something for sure.

I used to love this place, but no more! When Ice first opened it was a casual cafe with some old staples on the menu that tasted fantastic. I miss the parma! The food was always of a much higher standard than for what was being charged and it was a really friendly, welcoming place.
After a major renovation things began to change. It became more formal with much less choice on the menu and the price shot through the roof. Thankfully the breakfast was still sensational (which is what we mainly went for anyway). During the day time it still had a casual feel to it and the staff were still great.
However, I took a girlfriend in last Sat for breakfast and had possibly the worst service ever. While the food was still ok (although still on the pricey side) the staff seem to have developed an attitude beyond explanation. We stood at the door for a good 5 minutes with staff walking past not acknowledging us. The only guy that looked up at us was flat out making coffee.
When we made our own way to a table, menus promptly arrived with complimentary attitude. Not sure what we did to upset this particular guy, but he (and another one) win the prize as the rudest waiters I have ever seen. Yet they turned to other tables, presumably made up of friends, and were cracking jokes and telling stories. My girlfriend suggested walking out on the spot but we didn't, unfortunately.
After hearing from someone (and reading the previous review) that new owners have taken over, you would think they would be keen to build the business. Well, sorry guys. I hope you have lots of friends to keep you busy because some loyal customers will never return.

Response from Management:
Hi Macka and Kelly,
Liam here, the new owner of ICE Cafe in Prahran.
I am sorry that your experience at ICE Cafe was not up to scratch back in February. There is no excuse for bad service, but I would like to let you know that we have had a major shuffle of staff, menu and direction, taking ICE Cafe back to a more casual and affordable cafe, like the ICE of old.
I would like to offer you Breakfast on me whenever you are free to give us a go again.
Just ask for me personally and I will make sure that you are looked after.
I hope you take up this offer and I look forward to seeing you in the near future.
Regards,
Liam

Excellent breakfast in a very attractive space. Corn fritters were tasty and the fennel sausage with eggs and hash browns were very good. Coffee was also better than average. Upbeat music was a pleasant change from the moody music that so many places insist on play early in the morning.
Response from Management:
Hi dbrown,
Thank you so much for the great feedback, I am glad that you enjoyed your experience at ICE Cafe.
We hope you continue to enjoy ICE Cafe.
Regards,
Liam

Being new to Melbourne my wife and I like to explore and find Cafes for Breakfast.
We stumbled onto Ice by accident a few months ago and were greeted like long lost friend the instant we stepped through the door on a Sunday morning. The Coffee was fantastic and steaming hot (not a common occurence in Melbourne), but the food was the star. Corn Fritters with Bacon and an amazing spicy chutney, which I found out is made by Steven (one of the owners) and is available to take away.
My wife enjoyed her muesli with fruit also. The passing parade of Prahran folks and the fit working out across the lane in the gym meant there was always something going on. It's now top of the list for our friends visiting from Sydney for a great way to start your weekend.

We ate here on the evening of Thursday 4th February. The food was appalling. Both had the set menu. I had the goats cheese starter which was simply bland, my friend had the chicken broth. There was probably no more than a couple of spoonfuls of the broth. This was equally bland.
However, the worst was yet to come. We had both ordered the Chicken Kiev. All it was was a baked chicken breast, with some pasta and peas. When I say all it was was a baked chicken breast, that was it! Nothing to make it a "Kiev". No breadcrumbs, no garlic butter. It was more than bland. I said to my friend that night, that I would not serve this at home even to myself on an evening I didn't feel like cooking.
All of this cost $35 each. We could not wait to get out. Mind you, this was not difficult as the whole dinner was served so quickly we were in the place for less than an hour. Such a waste. This place has so much possibility. The ambience could be quite pleasant. Yet they have taken the attitude that a vaguely "hip" looking place can shove two fingers at their customers by serving disappointing food with disappointing attitude.
Do not eat here, unless you want food that is so boring and plain rushed at you. We both wished that we had gone across the carpark to somewhere else.

Hello minynant,
Am sorry you had a disappointing experience @ ICE Cafe back a few months ago. I am writing to you to advise that I have purchased ICE a few weeks ago and hope that this will entice you to return to ICE.
We have a new chef (1 Hat rated) as of a few months ago and have re-worked the Breakfast and Lunch menus and look to re-work the Dinner menu in the next month or so.
We have launched some great Xmas Menus for groups of 8 or more people that cover all budgets.
Looking forward to improving your experience.
Thank you
Liam
