Styled as an unpretentious neighbourhood bar and restaurant with a distinctly vintage style, this local favourite combine’s warm, professional service with fresh, uncomplicated food.
For breakfast you might find the locals enjoying a boutique roasted coffee (Small Batch) with the neighbourhoods best muffins and possibly assisting (or arguing about) the daily newspapers quiz. Lunch continues with gourmet sandwiches, fresh salads and a range of light meals with boutique wine by the glass (or bottle).
For the evening menu Chef Tamlyn Martinovich combines fresh local ingredients to present a menu that is both classic and timeless. Starting with share plates (available in the bar also) and moving onto a Eurocentric mains menu that brings the best of classic cooking techniques together with sustainably sourced local produce. Whilst plate presentation is important the real focus is on creating dishes that eat well.
The team at Home Dining Room is determined to give their diners the best all round experience, where all facets of hospitality come together to provide a sense of service where one feels they have been valued and welcomed by all involved from the top down.
Come Home..

Love it. A local gem for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Each experience being different and enjoyable, casual and homey for brekky, warm and intimately lit for dinner. The food is amazing and the staff really knowledgeable and welcoming.
Response from Management:
Thanks Ozjay, really great to hear your comments, I'm pleased that you enjoyed your time at Home as much as we do. Have you been back since we reopened after the fire? We've remodeled, and relaunched running a dining room upstairs (for dinner) as well as a more casual dining space downstairs. Once again thanks for the nice review.

My partner and I had dinner at Home Dining Room and really enjoyed our experience. The presentation of the food was appealing, and the steak I had for my main was amazing! Whilst someone below commented on the ambience being a little off due to globes being blown, I can only assume that the problem has been rectified as the lighting was fine.
The service was attentive without being overbearing, and our bill was delivered to us in a gorgeous old book that my partner actually used to have as a child! All in all a satisfying experience and good value for money.

A group of us had dinner here on a quiet Saturday night. I wasn’t sure what to expect at a place that describes itself as an unpretentious neighbourhood restaurant, but the upstairs dining area was quite pleasant, a nice window and old books adding character. It was a pity that our end of the room was darker than we would have preferred because of a globe or 2 having blown.
Lots of sharing plates for starters, and those that we selected were attractively presented and enjoyable. The main courses included a steak dish (very generous serves, and in each case cooked just as ordered), crispy chicken on gnocchi and spinach which was fine, as well as duck and a fish of the day. The wines offered were interesting, both European and Australian, and although not unreasonably priced, there is nothing much under $40 (BYO is available during the week). Desserts were fine.
The service was friendly and helpful, although fell off later in the evening when a top-up of water would have been nice, and, perhaps, we could have been asked whether we wanted our coffee to arrive before our desserts.

Cosy interior with sturdy spaced out wooden tables. Tiny grunge music not ideal for breakfast. Breakfast standards have gone downhill, they need to get another short order cook. One poached egg just overdone, another lost most of its yolk in the pan, and the cook obviously couldn't be stuffed cooking another one properly. Previous knead bread has made way for square loaf. Portions small.
As mentioned elsewhere, service is interminably slow, and disinterested at best. How it gets a hat from the AGFG is beyond me.
Response from Management:
Hi Merlot,
Thanks for your (brutally) honest assessment, we're always looking for ways to improve and work hard to continually do things better. 18 months on (and one fire causing us to refit and relaunch!) Perhaps it’s time to come back and give us a second chance? Whilst I respect your opinion it may be possible that you caught us on a bad day?
Kind regards,

Really enjoyed our experience, friendly staff who looked after us well from the time we stepped in to the time we left, lots of different thing to choose from, will definitely be back to try more of these. Unlike other reviewers the lack of a gut busting big breakfast was refreshing, and with plenty to choose from who needs it? Nice to find a cafe that is licensed and does a great bloody mary.
Staff told us they were open at nights as well and being locals we'll certainly be in to try some of the delicious sounding share plates. Keep up the good work.

Like many, I'm sure, I had read the review in The Age Good Food Guide and decided to give it a go. Unlike the reviewer of the food guide our experience was a bit different.
We arrived with a small child and asked for a piece of toast for child straight away. When do you guess the toast arrived? 20 minutes later with the main meals/ breakfast. Seriously we are talking about 1 piece of toast. The breakfast was ok but nothing to rave about especially considering they did not do a "Big Breakfast" as is typical in most good cafes.
Overall it was ok but nothing to rave about.
Response from Management:
Thank you for visiting us to see what all the fuss is about, I am sorry that you feel that you weren't treated as you would have liked, I can only assume that there was a miscommunication somewhere along the way. No matter how hard we try sometimes this happens, all we ask is that you let us know so we can rectify the situation.
I would love for you to come back and try us again, you still won't find a 'big breakfast' as after working in cafes for the best part of twelve years, I am sick of seeing good food being thrown out because the serving sizes are unrealistic - you can however still choose how you'd like your eggs cooked and add any number of sides for our extensive list.
We look forward to seeing you and your family again soon.

Great little restaurant and very good coffee, service was excellent, made to feel very welcome and comfortable, it had a sort of rustic homely feel with these cool hand crafted tables, place was full most times we have been (good sign) and there was still plenty of room so we did not feel like we were sharing our space with strangers like alot of other places. There was a very good wine list and it was matched with an awesome Beer list, local, NZ, European and one of the oldest wheat beers in the world, very nice.
The price is actually very good for the quality of food that we got, the steak is fantastic, melted in the mouth. Also tried the breakfast, there is an item on the menu called "the best bacon and egg sandwich" Big call but definitely earned its title. Only downside is they are not open at 7 am when I get my morning coffee.
