Things started off well, the service and the wine was excellent, however.

He had the t-bone, it was medium well at one end and blue at the other (ordered medium rare), steak cost $42 and had the smallest piece of sirloin he had ever seen on a t-bone.

She had fish of the day, snapper on pototoes. The fish was adequately cooked, however, looked thrown together, the potatoes were crunchy and sauce was boring.
We didn't stay for dessert, they didn't ask how the meal was, and are left with a bad taste in our mouths.

Unfortunately the Hobson bay hotel seems to change management/chefs every few months so this review is only valid for my last visit. Earlier visits were excellent, the staff were great and the food was spectacular for pub food. My last visit however wasn't great. The lunch menu shrunk drastically, there were no more specials which were always a winner. There was only one item on the menu I could even be bothered ordering which turned out to be a massive failure. It was a steak sandwich which seemed to be filled with cold left over veggies from other meals.it was incredibly bad. So if you're going to check this place out I hope you get them when they're doing well. Because when they're on song it's an excellent place to eat.

I've read the reviews of other diners, and while I'm glad they had such a good experience, I can't say that our time at the Hobbo was the same. It certainly has the ambience, the refit is great and it looks like it should be the place to be in Willie, which I personally think is full of a lot of tired looking restaurants (yes, you, Atomic Bar).

But, considering we were there on a Saturday night, I was surprised the place was done and dusted in terms of meals by 9:00 and there was hardly anyone there. The place should have been jumping! I think this may have something to do with the barren wasteland that is service there. Hardly any staff on, you struggle to get any attention and I hate constantly having to call people over just to get a drink or servers for the salad. Laying a white napkin on my lap at the start of the night and then leaving me to it is not service!

My meal was okay, zucchini and red lentil fritters, very heavy on the lentil but still nice. Everyone else had the prawn pasta, glad I didn't have that as I would have been scared to eat it, are prawns supposed to be black like that? (they weren't chargrilled, either). One of my friends said that usually happens when a prawn which has been frozen a wee bit too long gets cooked, which makes a bit of a mockery of their statement about "fresh" seafood.

I really hope they get their act together, maybe get some live music happening, more staff on, fresher food and generally liven the place up a bit. Then maybe it really will be the hottest destination in Melbourne's West.

I believe this restaurant changed hands and chefs early 2009. This is the first time I have been back. Fantastic! had the asian pork belly, delicious! lovely attentive service. Will be going back soon.

This restaurant's beer and wine list is first class. The food is amazing with the menu changing regularly. Located close to the bay the balcony views complete the dining experience. This hotel is fast becoming one of my favourites in Melbourne.

We were blown away with the decor, the service and the classie choice of drinks and meals. We never expected to be so impressed. We loved our meal, and look forward to dropping in for a beer and snack, or the full white table cloth fine dining!

The food at this place is amazing. I had the best steak I've eaten in my life. My partner had the Baby Snapper which was cooked perfectly and had amazing flavour. We shared the taste plate and oysters to start which hit the spot. Our waiter was fantastic and he taked us into having dessert which was to die for! I will return to this great find.
