I went to this restaurant last night. Fantastic food and really warm service. I was a little dubious given I am middle eastern that any restaurant is good compared to my wife and mum, but I was really pleasantly suprised. It was really good. Well priced and great little restaurant.

My partner and I have been going to this restaurant since we walked past it by chance almost a year ago. I must say that always the food there has been of high quality and fresh, and for the prices charged it's great value. We really enjoy going once a week for our Lebanese food fix. The couple who operate the restaurant are the friendliest I've ever come across. The ambiance is cosy and quiet. A delightful dining experience!

This restaurant really needs to smarten up its act. As others have mentioned, the food here is extremely sub-par with apparently bought in and frozen products being widely used. Other food is certainly not fresh and service is far from attentive.
For the comical prices being charged for the frankly disappointing food here, you'd expect some sort of other entertainment to be included! There has been some attempt made at making the restaurant appear welcoming, but the experience really begins and ends there, nothing more to offer. A real pity, perhaps a reality check is in order here!

I don't understand how some of these reviews are so different from each other. I live in the area have tried this restaurant twice, and I can honestly say it was bad the first time and awful the second. Other people in the area have also had a bad experience there.
The food is not fresh and has no taste. The service is poor and gives you the feeling that you're not wanted. The ambience is nice but not enough to cover up the other major weaknesses. Overall the value is way off, just not worth visiting, which is to bad really.

I have no idea if ‘samsondevry’ (reviewed on 19th Jan 2008) actually ate at the same restaurant which we ate at.
We found the service to be excellent and after some deliberation about what to drink (from a well appointed wine list), the owner/waiter suggested that we start with the Knapstein Larger with some mezza. The dips were absolutely fantastic. I have never tasted Baba Ghanouj like it. (Was told they grill/smoke their own eggplants over coals to make this exquisite, more-ish dip) couldn’t stop eating it! We also ate the Samboosik and the Spanegh wa Jebni both were delicious and matched perfectly with the beer that had been suggested.
For mains we chose the Samke Harra (fish) and the Fer’reh (quail) and drank the Joseph Chromy Reisling what a match! Fantastic! After this we felt like being greedy (It’s not that often you get food like this at these prices) so we ordered the Beme (Okra). Again the owner Richard suggested a perfectly matched wine for this dish, the Stephano Lubiana Primavera Pinot Noir, this wine was exquisite and perfect with the other mains as well.
This is what I expect from a Lebanese restaurant; home-made food which is only complemented by the ridiculously cheap prices. The wine list was thorough and matched the food brilliantly. We will definitely be eating here again and again. Well done on bringing some traditional Lebanese Cuisine to Melbourne. No booking worries either. Samsondevry probably needs to realise that when in Rome, the ‘Smoke’ hooker has been part of Lebanese culture dining experience, so get over it and join in! What a pleasant night out.

My experience at Habayib stands out as one of the most lacklustre and unimpressive for some time. The food was incredibly bland, average, uninteresting. The plates were far too large for the tables, leaving no room for glassware etc. There was an endless train of staff/customers(???) from somewhere out the back streaming past our table to smoke out the front, wafting reeking clouds of smoke back into the restaurant.
The lone waiter was drinking at a table with what appeared to be friends of his, making it impossible to catch his attention to take a drinks order. If all this wasn't bad enough, turn to the food, while the prices are low, the food is far from worth the money. My companion and I opted for the banquet, wanting to sample a broad cross-section of what this place had to offer. We quickly realised what a mistake we had made and what an unfortunate ordeal lay before us.
I observed other tables and noticed a great deal of food remained uneaten and I am not surprised some meat dishes were almost completely raw and what was cooked had no flavour. I don't know who has invested in this place, but they might want to enlist the help of Gordon Ramsay to redress this nightmare, or lose a lot of money.

The only thing worse then the service was the food. I expected a better experience after reading the other reviews but was very disappointed. The food was bland, and service was a little unprofessional. I have eaten at many other restaurants in East Brunswick and I would have to say this was not a good experience. There are to many other good restaurants on that strip including another Lebanese restaurant. So I recommend trying the other restaurants on the strip as you pass this one by.

Delightful small restaurant. A cut above the average Lebanese, excellent service, delicious food, I will certainly return.

Out of the all the restaurants in Brunswick this is definitely one of my favourites. The service is attentive and very friendly and the food is healthy and authentic. Much more delicious than any of the other Lebanese restaurants on the strip. Highly recommended, especially for the baba ganoush and tahini encrusted fish.
