I've eaten here twice, once had the banquet, the other time a la carte. Both times very happy with the food, the service and the ambience. No, it's not a '5-star restaurant' but it doesn't have the price tag that goes with that! What it is is a very decent little local restaurant, with a 'hands on' owner, which turns out very good food at a very good price. I've never had better tabbouleh, zingy with lemon and mint, and fresh, fresh, fresh! The banquet came over a period of time, and was plenty of food for the two of us, we couldn' have eaten another thing. I'd happily return, and will.
Went to Habayib last night with 10 friends and had the mezze banquet. The food was delicious, the staff friendly and the place has a nice welcoming and warm atmostphere. But, whereas the food was really tasty, we didn't think it was worth the $30 for this particular banquet. My friends were surprised when the food stopped coming out and were waiting for dessert and coffee but it wasn't included.
Although we had enough food to be full enough, it wasn't quite worth the cost. Also the food all came out really quickly so we'd finished eating within half an hour of sitting down! I was surprised at the other reviews on this site talking about generous serves and it makes me wonder if anything has changed due to them getting good reviews. In saying that, I'd be willing to give it another try because the food was great.
Hmmm, service by one waitresses in particular was very good. Main meal consisted of 3 tiny meatballs in the Kafta dish! Food was reasonably tasty. A man, who appeared to be the senior staff was hovering about, way too close for my partner and I to discuss the meal! And the lighting was too bright, thankfully I asked for it to be turned down and was obliged. Won't be returning
I suspose everyone is entitled to their opinion. but I must admit the worst part of this website is people who feel they need to label a bad experience as a score of 1/10 rather than providing us with an objective review of their dining experience.
I have been to Habayib on 2 occasions and it is certainly not a world-class restaurant, but that is far from the point. The food and dining experience is great, and well in proportion of the restaurants in its immediate area.
We ordered only entrees and mains. The lebanese sausages were fantastic, juicing and really tender. For our mains we had the lamb and chicken skewers which were also well cooked and served with a wonderful side of rice and yogurt. As many others have mentioned, the restaurant has a nice cosy atmosphere, and great for couples.
In particular I thought the service was great. Not too annoying, and allowed you to eat and chat without having the overwhelming feeling that the staff are trying to get rid of you to make way for more customers. On the downside, I thought that the meals were a little expensive (in proportion to the restaurants in the area), and my wallet took a small hit!
Nice looking restaurant with really bland food. I read these reviews and went their for a nice night out and I was horribly disappointed. I have many friends that are Lebanese and this very far from "home style"when it comes to flavour. Really too bad, nice looking place.
Excellent, fresh, home-style food. Everything is prepared with a lot of care, and the meals seem very balanced, nothing overwhelms or gets lost. This is friendly, comfortable place, with delicious food and surprisingly small bills, considering the size and quality of the meals. Highly recommended, this is my new favourite place to eat in East Brunswick.
Habayib is a beautiful restaurant, serving traditional and fresh Lebanese food.
I really like the kafta, and the service was warm and friendly, reminding me of being in Lebanon again.
I have been to Habayib a few times now and I have to say that I have never been to a restaurant that has felt like this place. The first time I went there I met the owners who treated me like a friend rather than a customer they had never met.
The food was wonderful and the coffee was excellent. I think that the people who have written bad reviews of the service at this restaurant need to pull their heads in as Habayib is the best Lebanese you will find in Melbourne and the service is sensational. It is not often that you see a place where the owners serve you themselves and are attentive to your needs, and the food is like they are preparing it in their kitchen at home. If there was a TV in the place I would have sworn that I was at their house for dinner.
