My wife's second time and my first at the Gold Leaf Preston for Sunday Yum Cha. It had the real feel of Asia when we dined today, a huge noisy venue, fresh dishes, and brisk service.
I found the foods to be of a high standard, super fresh and hot, and a good range. Maybe not quite the atmosphere of some of the better known restaurants in the city, but we really enjoyed our lunch there today and will be back again.

Had yum cha before 11-12noon rush, plenty of tables, attentive waiters for drinks. Plenty of food carts, fresh steamed items very nice. A good selection of fried dishes which were good. We had about a dozen dishes, for $60. Filled 2 adults and a child very well. Will be back!

Went there after reading the good reviews and also minding the fact that it has other branches of good repute, only to be horribly disappointed. Only good thing was we had prebooked the place otherwise we would have been kept waiting. The staff was hardly any helpful, who looked like she wanted to run away as soon as possible after we ordered. Could hardly explain about the dish we enquired about. We asked for the whole fish and she got us some other fish dish.
Our entree was so damn late that we had to ask the waiters twice about it. Granted it was packed and chefs were busy but that is not the excuse to keep customers waiting. Entree took almost an hour to get out of the kitchen and at the end, had to eat entree together with the mains. Very poor service and equally poorly trained staffs. If you want to run a big popular restaurant then for heaven's sake, get them trained and teach them to be polite with the customers. My 6 years speaks with more politeness than some of the staffs there.
The duck dish we ordered was cold and the other dishes were not up to the expectations. Not going there ever again and certainly won't recommend anyone.

Service barely passable and food Ok but sometimes cold or left over from earlier sitting. Had 3 families there (10 people) for yum cha, cashier would not take 3 payments, obviously too hard to divide by 3! be prepared to either pay Cash, no surprise there or one family to foot the entire bill! not recommended for large groups like this.

Went for yum-cha on Monday (Anzac Hol). The place was crowded, but my cousins managed to get a booking for 1.15 pm. Seems they have 2 sessions, 1 at 11 am and another at 1.15 pm. The steamed stuff was quite good, but was disappointed in one thing. Was given shumai which didn't taste like it, was more like a fish ball with some shrimp. The deep fried tentacles was very tasty, but wished they were hot and crispy instead of cold and a bit soggy.
The egg tarts were quite good. Loved their braised beef brisket, tender and tasty. Did not have a chance to taste the charsiew pau, beancurd dessert and white bait, but will go back. Decent restaurant and I liked that they did not crowd the tables like Sharks Fin House.

Whatever you do there, do not order peking duck! Menu said whole duck but they actually gave you only a few pieces of duck wrapped in pancake and then saved the rest to make other dishes for other customers. This is not how it's meant to be done. Proper pecking duck restaurants generally make 3-4 dishes using different parts of the same duck and serve them to you. How can they call it whole duck when you are only getting a small pieces?! And yet they charge the same price as everyone else!

This spacious restaurant was only half full on a friday night but the food was rather good, memorable dishes were mud crab with ginger, crispy deep fried flounder and steamed barramundi.

Do not bother ringing up the restaurant to make bookings for yum cha as I was rudely told that the place was fully booked and just come in and take a ticket. We arrived at 12:00 and got a table after 5 minutes, which was not too long of a wait. They just don't like taking bookings for yum cha. The steam dumplings are really good with lots of variety. The worst dish is the chicken feet because it is really soggy and tasteless.

For a Saturday 11:30 am yum cha it was busy enough, with a group of 10 it started well but then the food taste and quality went down, some foods being nearly cold, others such as chicken feet and fried taro lacked taste expected of these dishes. I believe our bill should have been in English and priced clearly.
We will try it again at a later date.
