My wife and I admittedly are big fans of Korean food with plenty of experience both in Korea and Australia and we are new to Melbourne so have no real context down here. We generally ignore the atmosphere and focus solely on the food. Futago was nothing but disappointing on that front.

We had the Spring Onion Pancake (pajeon) which was totally the wrong texture and it seemed to have a pancake on the bottom, spring onions and a smattering of small seafood and a fried egg on top to keep it together.

The Bibimpap was disappointing too. The meat had not been marinaded properly and so lacked flavour and the chilli sauce was a 'white guy' only version that no matter how much you put on refused to get any heat about it.

My wife enjoyed the tofu soup (soondubu) more and it was not bad. What annoyed us the most is that you have to pay extra ($5!) for a side dish of kim chi and extra for rice. None of the meals were good value though.

If you've had Korean before, don't go there. If you don't know what to expect it may be alright but we'll be searching further a field to find something a bit more authentic.

It has been 2 years since I first wrote a review for this restaurant, and since I have read the latest one done in March 2011. I don't know how anyone could think that a meal that will leave you rolling out to door for around $30 a head is bad value, I've not had as good for as cheap anywhere in Melbourne. I have now lost track as to how many times we have been and we still always find the food to be totally amazing. It is extremely fresh (sushi and sashimi in particular) and the cooked meals are just delightful.

You want to keep on eating long after your stomach has had enough! The restaurant is not ritzy looking by any means, but everyone is happy to help and service is quick. You don't worry about how the place looks as you are more interested in focusing on the delicious food and the company you are sharing it with. Price is still excellent.

We last went with a friend who is quite knowledgeable in Korean and Japanese food and even he was impressed, I'd say this is a great place for anyone!

Last night we went to Futago for dinner. We called to book and they said they could squeeze us in. Then when we arrived the place was empty. We went in and they went to seat us at a table for 4 when there was only 2 of us. We were then seated at a table for 2. The waiter proceeded to set the table. Then we sat and waited for approximately 15 minutes to even receive a menu. At this point another couple walked out disgusted as they had arrived before us ad still had not been served. We quickly followed. Avoid!!
