Esposito at Toofey’s carries the flag for first rate seafood dining in Victoria. The emphasis is on high quality control—only sustainable and fresh fishes are used and the best produce is sourced from around the country. The dining experience is warm and relaxed, the service excellent. Located in Carlton, Esposito at Toofey’s is a short walk from the city centre and its various hotels.

Sort of place that really winds me up no end. Trying to be too clever-food which turned out to be fairly tasteless and very ordinary. Simply didn't get combination of tastes right. Service disjointed (chips (suggested by Mr E himself; very chic) arrived when everyone finished their main course, go figure). Wouldn't bother with this over-priced nonsense. You'd be happier buying fish n chips at $10 and donating the rest of your money to the homeless, at least you'd feel content at the end of the evening.

Went for dinner with my boyfriend last weekend. We brought along a bottle of champagne (BYO - corkage $15 a bottle) and each had an entree and main. The food was all lovely, really clean flavours, fresh seafood, pretty presentation.
For entree we shared 6 oysters that came with a delicate dressing and the scallop carpaccio with apple and sorbet. They were delicious, according to my partner the scallop entree was one of his all time favourites, which is a big call.
For mains, I had the lobster tail special which was divine, and he had the open lasagne with scampi, beautifully executed making excellent use of great produce. With the entertainment card the meal was around $120 which was very fair, however, if we didn't have the $40 discount and we had ordered a bottle of wine it would've been $200, which would've been too pricey.
I recommend this place to anyone looking for a romantic meal, and the BYO policy is worth taking advantage of if you have a special bottle.
** Visited a second time, such a perfect meal. Waitstaff were lovely, meal was outstanding, overall such a great experience.

Took my boyfriend here late last week for his birthday and couldn't fault a thing. From the smart room to the friendly service and the food! To die for!
Will be back again soon.

Our recent dining experience at Esposito was bitterly disappointing and I feel embarrassed that I chose it for our get together! The wait service was chaotic; we had to ask for our white wine three times, and when it finally came it was a fresh bottle (so two bottles half full). Each time a waiter was reminded to bring our wine, they just told someone else!
We ordered some entrees, planning to share with our partners - these arrived on ridiculously large plates (did not fit on the table), with a single tiny piece of calamari on each plate. Why? The flat head fillets were overcooked and dry, the spaghetti marinara was dry and grainy and the mussel shells were empty and surprisingly brittle (why? Are they washed and recycled?).
One gentleman ordered grilled King George Whiting and was given fried fish, which was again dry and overcooked. One dessert was ordered and two were delivered to the table and the 'sommelier' whisked away a bottle of wine that was not empty!
I suggest that they train their staff in correct service protocol and ensure that the chef reads this letter of constructive feedback so that other customers do not leave, as we did, fed-up. Will never return!

On a rainy mid week evening I took advantage of a special advertised in the Age which proved exceptional value for money. As a seafood lover I chose the scallops as a starter and to follow barramundi. Both dishes executed beautifully. The only special preference I have with vegetable garnishes is not to have them pureed.
The wine by the glass Italian of course perfectly complimeted the dish presenting as medium bodied dry and lean on the palate. To finish I gave dessert a miss and instead finished with a perfect single chocolate from Koko Black and a fragrant cognac - bliss.

A great local and something different for the area, fresh and classic dishes executed beautifully! Friendly and efficient service, a gem to have in the area. Will be back very soon.

The old adage -"keep it simple" really summarised the food I was served last week at Esposito - for starters the Spaghettini Marinara was sensational, a simple dish of perfectly cooked spaghettini topped with a fresh tasting seafood marinara really hit the spot. For main course I had the King George Whiting with a serve of Maria's Lettuce's, simply cooked and attractively presented what more could you ask for? This restaurant is on top of my list of favourite dining out spots.

We had a wonderful night here on saturday evening. The food was as fresh as any seafood I have tasetd and the service friendly whilst being very efficient. If I could fault anything, it would be that we will have to come back to try the other dishes!

Had dinner here during new year's eve with my girlfriend, we both hated the food. We had all three courses, entree, main and dessert. For entree we had oysters which was good (pretty hard to stuff up oysters). For main we both had fish, it was hard and plain, it felt like eating card board. Dessert was extremely sweet, I had a taste of my girlfriend's dessert and it tasted exactly like mine, just really sweet and not much else.
Their service is very attentive and has a nice atmosphere (from the inside), I was quite impressed with the toilets. For the same price I could have a delicious three course meal plus wine upstairs. Never coming back.

We went back to esposito last night and I couldn't fault a thing.
Freshly shucked oysters and tempura St Helens with horseradish mayo. Stunning tuna sashimi with a daikon salad, a med-rare rib-eye cooked perfectly, succulent tender well-seasoned. A goat cheese ravioli with caramelised figs and black truffle. Salads spot on, service timed beautifully and always helpful and knowledgable.
Gorgeous room - I've booked again for next month!!
