Inside the iconic Chateau Yering in the heart of the Yarra Valley is Eleonore’s Restaurant, an elegant fine dining place. Awarded One Chef’s Hat in 2009 by The Age Good Food Guide, Eleanore’s menu features bold combinations of ingredients. Apart from the regular menu, there is one dedicated to Japanese food. Eleanore’s is open daily from 6:30 in the evening. Guests not staying in the hotel are welcome, reservations however are essential.

We used to live in Yarra Glen and each time we passed Château Yering we vowed that we would go there one day. The grounds are superbly Lush and Clean especially their Open Air Farmers Market which is always over flowing with people. We wanted to go back and have the Yering experience that the locals were talking about since they got the new chef! We went last month on a cool evening the fresh air and lighting especially outside was beautiful.
Firstly you are greeted by the staff all neatly dressed and polite. The exquisite décor hits you in the face, the red colours of the walls and ornate curtains set a romantic and cultured mood. The tables were set beautifully definitely looked and felt fine dining plus. The chairs are ornate as the curtains and you are seated comfortably. We were directed to the back of the restaurant and seated near the Bay window that over looked the garden it was unreal.
Ambience plus. We had the 3 course menu seared red mullet crab and rabbit serrano terrine both beyond this world in taste and presentation. For mains we had roasted grimaud duck that had all fancy names attached to it but it was so tender melted in the mouth, the pumpkin pie was sweet and delish with the banana puree and vegies. We ordered the red and green oak side salad that was tasty as well can't tell what the dressing was but it was just delish.
For desserts we had selection of Ices, man alive this dish is to die for the presentation was amazing just loved the Macadamia ice the best with almond caramel sauce. The pineapple polenta cake was sweet as with mango cream Sorbet and the cake. Magic!
To top off the night my partner had 1961 Delord Bas Armagnac @ $32.00 a small glass his face said it all. Bliss! We were expecting indulgence and pure elegance we got it!

I'm always nervous about going to restaurants which have been awarded chef's hats or with high prices, because I sometimes find my expectations don't match the experience. But as others have pointed out, although there are slightly old world aspects to the Chateau Yering surroundings, we were completely blown away by the sheer quality of the food and experience. I certainly agree that it is worth The Age's Chef's Hat.
We booked a package of dinner, room and breakfast (in Sweetwater Cafe), and it was terrific to have every aspect exceed our expectations. Every course was top quality, with suggested wines perfectly matching the food, and the wait staff we had were some of the best I have experienced anywhere, helpful, but not intrusive, and always responsive.
I'm not one to throw away money, and the package was not cheap but I think it was worth every cent.

It was with a dose of trepidation that we booked to dine on Christmas Day at Elenore's. Limited by choice due to the day, and wanting a special venue during our 4 day Christmas getaway in the Yarra Valley, we were aware of mixed reviews and an inkling of a venue stuck in the 1990s, despite the re-awarding of a Hat by the AGFG this year.
First impressions were mixed: we were greeting very cheerily at the door and shown to our table in a highly ornate room which did feel a bit like one was stepping into 1992, all period charm and big decor in burgundy, golds and greens: it sort of fitted Christmas perfectly and indeed the Christmas decorations were really quite beautiful in this setting but on another day might have felt over the top and approaching dated.
Pleasant views of distant mountains could be seen through large windows at the end of the room, and the atmosphere was very, well, Christmasy! It was a happy place to be. We felt cautious when we saw other's meals coming out, again, flashback 1992: overly fussed displays on ridiculously large plates, and a slight feeling of a “function menu”, without much certainty we made our selections from the Christmas day menu (3 choices per course), ordered a glass of French bubble and relaxed: how bad could it be? We were not cooking Christmas lunch! Yay.
Well, our caution was entirely unwarranted. Every course was delicious. Yes, the presentation needed to be deconstructed and plated onto something smaller than a playing field, but the flavours and the food preparation were generally of an extremely high standard. We chose wines for each course from their by-the-glass selection, a Pinot was disappointing, but others were appropriate if not exciting.
The service was definitely country: everyone tried hard but it was clear that the waiting staff were not formally trained. For us this actually took the edge of the formal atmosphere and made it all rather charming and homely on Christmas day and gave us a bit of a giggle, although I recognise it might not seem so on another special occasion after a special trip made out from the city.
The let down to the food experience were two amuse bouche served pre-entrée and dessert: someone had taken an extremely heavy hand with gelatine giving both a texture like rubber, and flavours that did not work in any way at all. Urk.
Happily, the amuse bouche chef was not let loose on the other courses and they each exceeded our expectations. We had an absolutely lovely Christmas lunch and enjoyed the comradeship of other diners as well as the staff.
As the afternoon wore on the sight of kitchen staff running, not just walking quickly, around the glass perimeter of the dining room (the room is like a conservatory with glass on 3 sides) was a little alarming, especially as at times they looked like an emergency was taking place, but I suspect it was just the harried looks of staff trying hard to meet needs across a number of venues at Chateau Yering that day.
So, all in all, highly recommended for Christmas, I have no idea how it would be on another occasion, but I’d be prepared to give it another go.

An absolute embarrassment to the fine eateries of the Yarra Valley. We ended up leaving after the kitchen staff's second woeful attempt an edible entree. The waiter became surly when we politely complained about the quality of the food and said "you must not be used to flavourful food".
The ambience was nothing to rave about either because when we arrived both of the staff members looked at us like we had just arrived from outer space. That is once we found the staff! We are locals to the Yarra Valley and frequent both fine dining establishments and the humble eateries and Eleonore's Restaurant just does not stack up.

Special dinner for us, stayed the night in a "stable" suite at the hotel on a package which included dinner and breakfast. The food was terrific, great flavours and beautifully presented. Both had steak for main course which was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. Even had room for dessert, and the Mango souffle was outstanding. Had a bottle of Chateau Yering Shiraz at $39 a bottle, which I thought was reasonable priced.
Overall a most pleasing experience in a beautiful hotel. Would certainly return.

Have read tremendous reviews regarding degustation menus and long dinners, but were mildly disappointed to have travelled all the way for a selection of 4 entrees and 4 mains ($60 for 2 courses). Limited by-the-glass selection (none Chateau Yering!) with heavy mark ups. Dining room focused on 2 large family gatherings, so there was either a wait, or food came quickly.
Modest servings for the price, with good produce and some lovely flavours, but came away thinking they were having an off day. Too far to travel to bother again.

Lovely period setting with great views from the elongated dining room. Interesting modern menu generally very well cooked. The confit of ocean trout was excellent, the Dory main was a little disappointing, but the duck main was very good. Efficient service, quite reasonably priced for the setting and overall experience in a mid to high end restaurant in the yarra valley. Definitely one to consider for a special occasion.

We were there for a special occasion, a family dinner, and some guests had flown from interstate. I am not in the business of writing reviews but for this occasion I will make an exception. It was without doubt, the worst meal I have had for years. Now I know it's easy to criticise, and we all make allowances from time to time, but this restaurant was appalling.
Dreaful, greasy food, the lamb tasted like it was decomposing. The crab so thickly battered it made seaside fish and chip shops look like Michelin material. The ravioli looked and tasted like vomit. The plates were cold. A waiter dropped salad in a very expensive glass of wine, then I had an arguement as they wanted to replace it with house red !All in all, a disaster. The kitchen staff should be ashamed, and if anyone can eat this and think it tastes good they should stick to McDonalds.

Fantastic ambience and awesome surroundings. Found the waiter to be rather condescending. Food was delicious but rather small servings and pricey. We had a good time on our Anniversary. 3 courses and 1 drink each cost $180 for 2 people.
