I am a regular visitor to DE and won't ever go back. We arrived on sunday at 130 pm. Less than half their tables were booked or taken. We asked to be seated under an umbrella, but as they were taken settled on the shade sail "beer garden" area, directly outside the kitchen. The floor manager directed our waitress (a pleasant young trainee) to inform us that we were not "entitled' to eat anything from the special board as we didn't have a reservation!
We picked our jaws up off the floor and only stayed as our children were hungry. We settled on a small prawn pizza, bowl of chips and drinks. The 4 prawn pizza and 'small' bowl of chips arrived ($8 for 8 chips!). Most apologetic for the treatment our waitress kindly offered to refill the chip bowl. We overheard the kitchen conversations to hear that they had run out of chips for the afternoon.
To compensate the waitress offered the children some icecream, nice gesture for the terrible service. When we asked for the bill we found we have been charged for the complementary icecream too! Don't bother going there unless you're happy with poor service, a kitchen that runs out of food, and senior staffs that hold customers in obvious contempt. Try somewhere else.
Fresh, delicious and beautifully presented food. Friendly and helpful service. Great wines with knowledgeable recommendations. (if you like whites the 'i' range Arneis is fantastic). Not the most scenic views compared to some other winerys in the area but still very much an enjoyable experience.
