Went for breakfast. Ordered crumpets with honey. Got crumpets with mould. Waitress described said mould as "interesting". So yeah, not recommended.

Went to Degraves with friends a couple of weeks back. It was actually well worth the money, the bonus comedy show put on by the wait staff was incredible, not only for us but the table next door.

Probably won't head back tho, not my cup of tea, or coffee, but you get given it anyway! Just prefer not to be yelled "Stop" at for picking it up!

Terrible, terrible, terrible! The service was so bad and so slow, my boyfriend and I had to laugh. Considering the food was only average and ordinary, there is nothing about this cafe that would make me return.

I am appalled. I can't believe how terrible the service is here. The waiter my friends and I dealt with actually told us off for sitting at a table with take-away drinks. We ordered not having decided whether we would stay or go, when a table cleared up so we sat down. He actually pointed to us one by one and loudly repeated "you've done the wrong thing, you've done the wrong thing" etc.

He never smiled, and he angrily told us to leave. How could a place treat paying customers like that? Don't ever go here if you want to be treated like an adult and not a child. Believe the negative reviews on service, they're true. Also my coffee was not hot.

I recently went back to Melbourne and decided to have breakfast at this place as I used to enjoy it.

What a total disaster! The waitress took forever to take our coffee out (which was getting cold by then) and after reminding her that our meal wasn't out, she finally put the order in and we had to wait over 45 minutes to get it. To add insult to injury, she got the order wrong even after reminding her twice.

The food was average at best and a far cry from a few years back. We complained at the end to the counter staff on the mediocre service and food and was just brushed aside. If you're willing to put up with poor service and wait forever for your meal, this is the place for you. I know I will never step foot in here again.

Still an excellent place for coffee and or dinner (much better food this time) owed to the new chef I believe. Every time I'm in town this place gets recommended to me, its not hard to see why.

Busy and buzzy but let down by downright rude service (waitstaff and counter staff). Such a shame that a great spot in a beautiful inner city laneway is ruined by ridiculously rude staff. Girl in the green T-shirt at the register. You know who you are, the "I don't smile on demand" girl. Lose your attitude, you work in the service industry for goodness sake.

I have to admit that the service ranges from indifferent to bored, but never have I been treated or addressed rudely. Coffee orders occasionally incorrect, and not as impressive as 5 years ago. I suspect trading on grunge factor and prior acclaim, but no longer a destination spot in the area.

I used to love this place but I will never return after what happened at my last visit.

Started ok when the waitress asked if I wanted to try the coffee of the day but went down hill as I realised that she had no idea what it was or how it tasted. We ordered our meals/coffees (a mocha and double ristretto) and she rushed off. She returned with coffee, a mocha for my friend and a latte for me (not what I ordered which is understandable given how busy it was). She then tried to convince me that the latte was a double ristretto and that the difference between a ristretto and a double ristretto was that a double has milk.

After explaining the difference what she had and what I ordered she returned with my coffee which I can only assume was purposely lift to sit as it was barely luck warm. Our food then came out and once again the orders were wrong. My friends "big" breakfast looked sad and my porridge was drenched in home brand honey and without the milk or cinnamon that I asked for. We finished our meals as quickly as possible (I was very angry by this point) and went to pay at the register. The staff member who took our money was unfriendly, rude and uninterested in our experience.

To be fair the food/coffee is ok but not stand out (that is if they get your order right). However, the service is unacceptable. Don't go here. Try others in the library for an authentic experience or take a walk to others for stand out coffee, food and service. These people don't deserve your business!

Rude staff that are more interested in speaking to each other than serving the customer. They will start to take your order, then get distracted and start talking to "the boss" and then come back and again ask what you would like to order.
Has happened many times. Although I like the food and coffee, not going there anymore due to the rude service.
