The best chinese restaurant I have been so far. However, I must mention that I'm a european and I like when my food is well done, there's salt in it and it's not too spicy. Great food, pleasant decor, nice quiet music that does not bother to have a conversation, my favourite dish is duck spring rolls. It's a good place for both, to get together with friends and to bring a date.
I have no idea what sort of Chinese food they're serving, because what we had was hardly Chinese. More like white boy chinese food. Asians should definitely avoid this place. Overrated and overpriced.
The food was really bland no flavour was so ever, was really disappointing. After reading all the reviews, expecting much more. Would never go back there again. The service was excellent though.
Have been here about 20 times for lunch and tried everything on the Yum Cha Menu, great predictable food, excellent quality. Salt and Pepper Calamari, a must to try. Highly recommended.
I was eager to take family to David’s for a special occasion. We knew we had an early sitting and needed to be out by a certain time. We did not need to be told when we were seated "so you know you have to be out by 8 pm". I find "welcome" a much more pleasant approach when seating customers.
We were served flat champagne and when we requested to have a fresh glass poured, we were served a top up of fresh on the flat. The food was mostly pleasant and presentation was nice. When coming to pay the bill the staff made an error and overcharged our card (1,000's instead of 100's) and to cause it to bounce. The waiter came and told us our card was declined.
Note to David’s if you make a mistake, don’t make the customer out to be at fault. And don’t be so rude and dismissive when the customer calls to find out why there is a huge pending transaction on their card and explain how embarrassing such a thing was to them. Shame on you David's. Never again!
Only dined here once (yum cha) and the food was pretty good but sometimes the presentation seemed to be more important than the flavours of the food itself. There was no trolley service which I find really detracts from the whole yum cha experience. I suspect that the popularity of this place is due to the "high dining" experience it presumes to offer but really is that necessary for yum cha? Haven't eaten from the regular menu here so my review is based solely on the yum cha and on that basis I would say the restaurant is good but slightly overrated and a little overpriced.
Should have known being Chinese not to expect too much from a restaurant aimed towards Australian tastes. Went with parents who said that the food was the same sort of Chinese cuisine you would taste in china town but more expensive. Serivce on a quiet Friday night was very slow, charging $5.5 per person for a few sprinkles of Chinese tea was ludicrous! Was expecting David's to be as good as these reviews below, but only the ambience was of anything to write home about.
This is upmarket Chinese, and totally different to the usual. I am told this is because it is based on the lesser known food of Shanghai. My entree of dried tofu with mustard cress was unusual, healthy and strangely appetising. My dining partner delighted in his quail. Mains were just as delicious. And we were delighted once again when the bill came, 2 entrees and 2 mains for under $100.
