This room has a load of character. When I ate here recently there was a log fire going which added to the ambience. I had oysters nuturale, which were very nice and fresh. I decided on the signature steak which I ordered med-rare but it came med+. They readily cooked another one. I couldn't see what the fuss was about with this dish but then I'm not a big porterhouse fan. The veggies were boring, the same as you'd get in a pub. Wine list is very limited and it bothers me when I see same wineries represented in each variety. Overall, you generally get what you pay for and this restaurant sits as good value if you're not expecting.
We went to this venue as a work function. Unfortunately I don't eat steak but the seafood was great. The staff were very helpful in selecting wines which mactched well with meals we ordered. We stayed quite late and the staff were very accomodating.
CR's advertises as a steak and seafood restaurant and is a pretty good example of the CBD steak venue. But don't worry, it's not all lawyers and bankers! We found the staff very welcoming and helpful, service was warm and efficient and the steak was excellent. There is a good selection of wines by the glass, as well as some helpful suggestions on the menu, all fairly reasonably priced. Our waitress had some great recommendations too which we were happy to follow with good results. It's in a great location too, a renovated annexe to The Rialto that oozes history. Overall, a great place to stop by if you're a bid jaded by too much haute cuisine and just feel like a hankering for some real food!
