    We are staying in The Blackman and so decided to try "our local.". (Temporarily at any rate).

    The room is welcoming and the wait and bar staff assured and polite. There's an a la carte menu, a tapas menu (highly recommended) and a specials menu (a little over priced in my opinion).

    We started with the carpaccio and the prawns, both of which were excellent. I thought the three prawns a little meagre however. Meanwhile, drink service was very good and bread arrived with virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar left on the table. A nice touch.

    For our mains we ordered off the special menu not realizing that these were $35 and $34 respectively. My John Dory was very good and the Italian green vegetable interesting and tasty. My partner very much enjoyed his chicken. We would have enjoyed them more if they had been around $22 per plate and in line with the a la carte main courses. These were comprised of pasta dishes and from what I observed leaving the kitchen, all very good. There is also pizza and these looked enticing.

    What I like most about this establishment is that it does simplicity well, which is far superior to complexity done badly. And all, the while making it look effortless. Overall a very enjoyable evening.

    14/20. A good reliable standard that won't disappoint. Well recommended.
