I have been a couple of times to the San Churro on Lygon street. Service is very good although due to the popularity seating is tight (there is extra seating upstairs though). You order your food at the counter and then they bring it up to your table.
The traditional hot chocolate is a little too thick for my liking. The churro's are to die for, I first tried my churros with the chocolate dipping sauce...you have to try it with the caramel (dulce de leche) dipping sauce!!! You will not go back to chocolate. I could eat that caramel sauce with a spoon. And no it is not the same as the caramel that you can make by boiling a tin of condensed milk, it is ten million times better. So that is my tip, some hot churros, caramel dipping sauce and a nice mug of hot coffee.
San Churro at QV, generally gives awful service. For many visits now, we've been patient because it's not been open long and we assumed the servers were still learning their way. Plus it's the only one in the CBD, so one has little choice. Tonight, my party &and went for desserts after dinner. Seating inside is very limited, so most of the time you have no choice but to sit outside. We happen to sit right next to the window that overlooks the churros being made and also the coffee machine.
We all ordered hot chocolate and churros. When the server arrived, she brought us our hot chocolates in take away cups, and said "I'm so sorry but we've run out of mugs." Which was fine with us if it were really true. On top of the coffee machine were over two dozen mugs! I stopped counting after 25! We were all very disappointed, as we come to this San Churro at QV at least once a week.
But after tonights treatment and blatant lie, you can bet we will never be returning to this location.
