Excellent location. Food is alright; sushi and tempura not bad (tempura desperately needs dipping broth!) and desserts are worth it, but most items in the menu are ultimately horribly overpriced for a Japanese casual eatery that this place tries so hard to emulate. No way in hell I am paying $20 for a bowl of ramen!
Came here a couple of years ago on our honeymoon. After coming bck to it recently, we were very disappointed. Service was poor and food average. You would expect more from a restaurant with such a great location.
I love this place and have been here twice now. The food is awesome. However do not order all food at once, it will come out in any order. We ordered entree first and then main. The food is always fresh. Only thing they need to improve are the hard chairs!
Pretty average. Great location, great place to people watch, the service was functional, but the food ho-hum. It wasn't bad by any means, but it's not a culinary delight. Maybe that's all you can expect for the price.
I have been to this restaurant a number of times and have never been impressed with the food. I think it is very over-rated. Now that you cannot book it is often hard to get a table, and the door lady is most unfriendly and rude. The communal tables are also annoying. I think this place is a 'tourist trap'.
Visited on a rainy Sunday afternoon, and there were no more than 20 people here. Simple Japanese noodle and rice fayre, and tasty. Nicely done tempura. Reasonable value. Tolerant of a dreadfully energetic toddler.
This place is reasonable value for money for the area. Federation Square seems to be quite a tourist draw for some reason. It's very like the Wagamama chain in look and feel, only with more interesting food. Seems pretty popular too, as it was heaving by 6 pm, though it was a public holiday. At least when sitting cheek by jowl on the same bench with complete strangers, you get to eavesdrop on their interesting conversations! I suspect the quality of service depends a lot on how busy they are, we thought it was OK considering how busy they were.
We weren't waiting long for either a table (ie position on bench) or our food. I'd recommend the marinated minced chicken on noodles with broth which was pleasantly spicy, not a full soup noodle dish, but they did happily bring me extra broth so I could make a soup noodle out of it, so to speak. They have a good range of oriental teas as well as the usual booze as well.
Our entree of chicken was very undercooked. Our mains order was 'lost', and took 55 minutes to get to us after numerous complaints to several waitresses. Service was terrible. Staff were clueless. I've had better Asian food from my local takeaway.
