My Boyfriend and I love China Max, It is a Restaurant with great food and staff. Service has been amazing over the last year we have been going. We enjoy our Peking Duck, making it a ritual when we go on our monthly bases, its definitely listed on our things to eat.

We have also had take away, however, nothing beats eating in the restaurant. I found that it's much more fresh. Our overall experience at China Max has been a success, and we recommend it to everyone who loves that type of food.

I have been to China Max twice in the last month or so. The wine list has been dumbed down over a long period, but I ordered a glass of wine on the first of my recent visits and what I got was definitely not what I ordered and this is not the first time I have had this suspicion recently. I sent the wine back and they exchanged it for something different, but then we ended up arguing because they tried to charge for the glass of wine I rejected plus the replacement glass and no, it wasn't a misunderstanding, they actually tried to charge me for both glasses in the full knowledge I had sent one back.

My last meal there it was obvious the place had changed hands. The san choi bao was bland and really mean and the other dishes we had were not as good as on previous meals. The steamed rice was dry and horrible and one of the dishes we were served was not what we ordered so we sent that back as well and it took ages for the correct dish to come out and never a word of apology for stuffing up the order. The staff were largely clueless. We once considered this a very reliable Chinese restaurant, but we won’t be going back.

We paid $8 for corkage and there was one of us drinking. We asked to sit in booths and we were told we couldn't due to them setting up for the next day. We were really disappointed. They don't have eftpos, so they watched us go to the ATM. It was a joke we should have listened to the ratings before we went as we said we wouldn't go.

The food wasn't good at all and for an entree, main and rice $60. The waiter was so rude, my partner said you couldn't pay him to go there. However, I do recommend somewhere else in Keilor Road they were amazing price and service.

I have been going to China Max for years, it is a great restaurant and the staff on a whole are very helpful. Sometimes when they are very busy the service slips but overall it's a great restaurant.

Ordered take away. Arrived within specified time, announced arrival, 15 minutes later still no food. When finally got service found that food had been ready for some time, spring rolls and wontons were cold so refused to pay for them. Staff member became rude and almost abusive, accused us of lying about how long we had been waiting. Food was okay but had to be microwaved when we got home.
    Would not recommend this place.

Went on new years eve after it was recommended. Terrrible experience the food came out cold, was delivered to our table the same time as our first drinks, obviously the microwave wasn't working properly. One dish we couldn't even eat it was a chilli and pepper chicken dish couldn't taste either tasted more like it had been dropped in the charcoal ashes and then served. Terrible service to many tables. We were in and out within an hour. Would never go back. No entrees and only 2 drinks for 5 people $175 definitely over priced for what you get.

Sunday morning yum cha. Good idea. We were disappointed by the food. Their "yum cha" was what was listed as entrees on their normal menu. The menu there was a limited selection. Most items we had had a consistent oily taste. The spring rolls dripped oil. Even the spicy tofu had the same bland oily taste and definitely no spice!. We left feeling ill and it "only" cost us $170 for 2 adults and two children plus tip as the service was good.

Good points: Food was good overall. Waiters and Waitresses were helpful. Negative points: Four of us in the group waited 15 minutes before calling someone to our table so we could place our oprder. Wine was utterly terrible. $90 for a back vintage Cab sav and it was off. This was due to it not being stored properly and was subject to too much heat over time. Very Disapointed.

Staff first debated our opinion instead of trying to just help us. Eventually after us threatening not to pay for the wine he substituted it for a $20 bottle whereby he still charged us the $85. Very poor effort !
