I would say this place is good for supper mostly but that's about it. Service is terrible and amateurish to say the least. They're just walking about chatting doing absolutely zilch. No smiles whatsoever. Is this how they serve in Malaysia or Singapore? Food wise, its mainly typical stall food. Not bad rotis and satays, but its very ordinary at best hence an ordinary, passable mark.
Price is actually more expensive than similar shops selling same food. Only go there if you're desperate for supper after clubbing.
The food doesn't taste as good as it looks. The portions are a little small, I mean I'm a girl and I don't usually eat a lot, but it just doesn't fill you up. Service not too good either, seemed rude/cold, nothing worse than that. The iced tea I ordered just tasted like water cos they had put so much ice in that tiny plastic/foam cup they serve it in. It's just too expensive, not very good value.
Pity that the food is rather good but the service so awful! When we arrived, we were shown to a table right next to the computer screen, despite the restaurant upstairs being quite empty. This would mean we would have to be interrupted every time the staff needed to use the cash register! We asked to move, and were shown another table, but the waitress was not too charmed by our request!
We then waited over half an hour for our starter to arrive but must confess that the chicken satay did taste rather good. We then had another long wait for our mains despite the restaurant being virtually empty. We struggled to get eye contact with the waitress who was not very friendly or apologetic.
The vegetables were perfectly steamed - crisp and vivid green. The seafood noodles were awesome (but slightly too oily), and the curry was very tasty too.
Just a pity about the service and arrogant attitudes from the staff. They let the chefs down.
A friend brought me to this restaurant yesterday. We ordered "Char Kew Tew" and Malaysian Platter. I enjoyed the Char Kew Tew - tasty and pretty close to what I get back in Malaysia.
As for the Malaysian Platter, it looks like Nasi Lemak but with a few more dishes on it. It's a good platter if you want to have a taste of different Malaysian food - satay, beef rendang, chicken curry, coconut rice etc. I enjoyed my catch up session with my friend - good ambience and service.
We were served juice that turned out to be 3 weeks past its expiry date after the rude waitress tried to convince us the fizzy taste was normal. Our initial complaint was met with a "fine". I'll bring out the bottle & show you the expiry date then" only to be followed by a half hearted apology when the date was revealed to have been 20 days prior!!!! It was replaced by a free drink but that didn't take the sourness out of the experience with such rude staff. The customer is certainly not always right here.
Food was average and meals arrived at quite lengthy intervals. Most meals under $12 so good value for the location. Staff rude again on departure. Wouldn't go back.
Love the Penang Prawn Mee - best ever tasted in Oz. Wish they would dispense with using msg though. Need to pick the right dishes, some can be disappointing, but the kway teow is nice. I just go there for those 2 dishes and they never disappoint! Proper restaurant, so you have to pay more, but not much more than tasty dodgy looking joints..
I have been to this restaurant at least 3 times ordering different dishes each time. I personally find the food not as flavoursome as it should be and a little over-priced, but my wife assures me the seafood laksa is excellent (she has ordered it all 3 times!). The South-Indian platter was very bland and disappointing, but the beef rendang was a lot better (not enough chilli though). Why is it that restaurants with "chilli" in their name often skimp on chilli in their dishes? Service can vary, one visit we were served by someone who too bored to care (even seating us was a hassle), yet other times it has been fine. OK for a late meal if you are in the city.
I've been to this place several times and the food has been consistently good. While it may not match the quality of food in Singapore/Malaysia (which is a big ask) I have enjoyed the few trips there. The Hainan Chicken with Rice is very good and wins my vote as it is de-boned. The condiments that accompany the dish are also great and bring out the flavours. Some of the entrees are a bit too westernised (e.g. fried dim sum) and a bit on the pricey end. Generally Chilli Padi produces solid, tasty and medium priced meals (just stay away from the entrees).
Being a Singaporean, the food here doesn't do justice to the glorious food that comes from the Malaysia/Singapore region. The service was poor, the food tasted like it was marinated by instant gravy packets, and the prices are pretty exorbitant.
Only good thing about this place is it opens till late. But then again the food is pretty bad so I'd rather pay for a BigMac then this.
