Entrées quickly arrive and Wow! They look absolutely amazing, the plates are presented beautifully with delicate precision last seen at Vue! I am over impressed and almost hesitant to dive in and destroy all the hard work. almost hesitant!..

If you feel like feasting on a fine cut of meat carefully accompanied by a simple selection of vegetables then charcoal lane will have a few things for you to choose from. Despite the minimalist style menu, the options are wide because everything sounds wonderful.

The service is personal making the experience memorable. Whilst it is on the higher end of the price scale, it's definitely worth what you pay. We ordered a few cocktails which also exceeded our expectations. The concept here is what caught my eye and I can honestly say I'll be going back to sample the other dishes just waiting to be enjoyed.

Beautiful food and very friendly service. It was so hard to choose a dish because all dishes sounded very good. Very interesting combination of ingredients and reading the menu made me very excited. It’s always fun to imagine what the dish will look like but this time my imagination went wild with lots of interesting Indigenous ingredients! Food did not fall short of expectations, I would say exceeded.

I truly enjoyed the dining experience. I will go back again for some special occasions.

How can you people possibly give this establishment a 10 in value? Side dishes are never supposed to be larger than the mains. A side of fries was ten times larger than my lunch time main of cured wagyu beef, which consisted of four tiny slivers of beef held together by clothes pegs ($15 for a mouthful of food?). There really isn't anything wrong with the food, what little there is, and the service is pretty impressive, but don't bother going to Charcoal Lane if you're hungry.

We went here for my boyfriend's Dad's 75th birthday. We have been wanting to try it ever since it opened but this was the perfect occasion. We had 11 guests in total. We all had an amazing night.

The food was absolutely first class. We chose to share several of the shared appetiser plates as our entrees and this was perfect. When the mains arrived I guess we all thought they looked a bit small, but once our sides were added to the mix, the meal size was spot on (tip: sides are essential to stretch the meal and the beetroot and fetta salad was divine).

I had the duck and this was truly amazing. 5 in our party chose the kangaroo and all claimed it was simply beautiful. The presentation of every meal was what you would expect from a michelin rated restaurant, faultess. beautiful. All our mains came out within a minute of each other (fantastic considering our large party)which was impressive.

The service could not be faulted. Our waitress (I think her name was Clarissa) was extremely warm and genuine. Nothing was too much effort and every request was met with a smile. She is probably the best waitress I have ever experienced. I would have been absolutely thrilled by this experience even if it was just another 'top melbourne restaurant', but the icing on the cake of our overall experience is the fact that it is a social enterprise run by Mission Australia.

How on earth could you knock back the opportunity to eat fabulous food in a top class restaurant and know that the proceeds are going to support such a good cause! Well done Charcoal Lane, I hope you enjoy a very long, prosperous future in Gertrude Street and turn out some world class indigenous Chefs! We'll definitely be back.

The food is very well priced and is of a very high standard. The presentation of the food is immaculate. When taking into consideration that it is a training facility, bring a great surprise as the service is superb and the food delicious. Have visited a few times and am always happy to come back for more.

Fabulous food, and good service. Serves look small, but are actually very filling. Definitely recommend the mashed potato and the dessert platter. Most of the mains are around the $30, mark, however, for the quality of the food and the service it is well worth the price.

Not only is the restaurant fabulous but so is the concept, we should all do what we can to help people in our country, and if eating at a top class restaurant is what it takes then I am in! Highly recommended.

Food was beautiful and I thought it was value for money. I've been to restaurants in the area and paid the same. I'd recommend the salmon entree! Will definitely be going back once the alcohol licence comes through. Great building and staff were friendly as well.

Beautiful building, great fit out. Staff friendly and enthusiastic. The food was a let down. Not many vegetarian choices and tiny serves. No alcohol. Pretty pricey. Interesting for a one-off visit but I wouldn't go again.
