We went to Carsons Lounge on a Friday night, it was an especially cold night, the owners children ran in and out of the restaurant constantly, leaving the door open and everyone freezing. The waitresses spent an inordinate amount of time closing the door after them, these 4 children were completely unsupervised and made the night uncomfortable for everyone.

When our meal came, it become obvious very quickly that the slow cooked lamb had peanuts in it, one of our party is allergic to nuts and this was not specified on the menu. When suggested to the waitress it was important to note 'peanut content' on the menu, she gave the impression that the situation would not be changed by management. This is unacceptable. The uneaten meal was put on our bill until challenged.

    Response from Management:
    Dear Brooke,

Thank you for your recent comments and review on eatability.com.au. It is always disappointing to learn that one of our customers has had a less than satisfactory experience and I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that all comments whether good or bad are taken on board and addressed in order to improve future dining experiences.

With this in mind, we will indeed be addressing the issue of food allergies. Due to the many varied foods or additives that individuals can be allergic to, our strategy towards this will be quite simple. As of our next menu update a footnote will be placed on the bottom of all Carsons menus requesting that customers duly advise us of any allergies they have or concerns with, in regards to their potential menu selections. This will hopefully avoid another situation similar to your own and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for bringing this to our attention. To your other point it was simply human error that meal ended up on your bill and was removed as soon as this was brought to the teams attention.

In regards to the constant opening and closing of the front door I can only imagine that this would have been incredibly frustrating and I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the disruption to your evening. As you can imagine, we like to keep all customers at Carsons happy and the staff found themselves in a difficult situation. The children in question were actually in the company of another customer at the time and were not my own. If I had children of my own I would most certainly not have allowed them to continue to behave in such a manner in my business environment.

Carsons continues to strive to provide excellent food, great atmosphere, value for money and prides itself on looking after its local clientele. I also invite all comments to be sent directly to me via the Carsons email address in order that they are clearly visible to me and I do not find them by chance online.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to revisit Carsons Lounge as I am confident that your next experience will be more enjoyable.

    Yours sincerely

The review below is one I wrote about 12 months ago. We revisited on Saturday night and the joint verdict was 'one of the best meals we've enjoyed'! The chef has changed again, and this time we struggled to make a selection due to the many, many tempting options. I settled on the slow cooked lamb and my B chose the duck, both were outstanding. Go to Carsons Lounge and experience the food, it really is wonderful! And to top it off, the bread was also delightful!

Old review: I’ve been to Carson’s Lounge about 4 times since it opened in about 2007, and most recently with its ‘’renowned’ chef at the helm. While the food was nice enough (I had a medium Angus steak), the menu was very limited (although there were some specials on offer). I initially struggled to find something to order. As the menu didn’t have as many tempting options as I recalled from previous visits.

The service was good, our waiter was very attentive and really personalised our dining experience without intruding but the atmosphere seemed to lack something and by about 9 pm on a Friday night the place was virtually empty. Without over playing the negatives, the bread was tasteless and foam-like, which is sort of inexcusable when there are 2 places directly across the road selling artisan organic sourdoughs and similar and indicated a lack of attention to detail.

While I’d definitely go back, it didn’t leap out at me as a must-do Yarraville dining experience and the virtues of the new chef less were not particularly distinguishable than those of his lesser known his predecessor. Interestingly, a newspaper food critic review appeared a few days after we’d dined there, and their experience was virtually identical to ours, especially in relation to the bread. This is such a simple thing to address and makes all the difference to initial impressions.
