After initially opting for the risotto special and then being told that the waiter had got the flavours for the day wrong, I decided to take the entree sized ($25) lasagne. When it arrived, the serving size was no larger than a CD and pretty much the same depth as a CD! There was no mention on the menu of it being a vegetarian lasagne so I ended up paying $25 for a couple of sheets of lasagne, a bit of white sauce, some tomato sauce and cheese and it didn't even taste that great! Whilst the service was attentive, I definitely won't be going back.
One of my worst ever dining experiences. The food was really ordinary and we complained about something, can't quite recall what it was. The waitress then abused us for complaining. The food came at all different times. The servings were ridiculously small. Do yourself a favour and avoid this one.
Generally pretty good Italian fare. For a 2 Hatted Restaurant I expected a bit more attention to details to be honest, also a few more interesting dishes.
To me, the taste of the food is a great. No doubts about that. However there is no way this is rated the same as other greats by any measures. The dishes served here are way too simple to be rated alongside the greats.
Service is not too friendly at all. People complain about French waiters but sometimes I find Italian waiters can be worst if they just don't want to listen to you, not even pretending to pay attention. No tips then.
Food a bit on the strong side here. No complaints about that as it's Italian food.
Just doesn't deserve its 2 Hats in my opinion relatively speaking. Maybe 1.5 Hats if there's such a thing?
Had dinner Friday night as have not been there for around 12 months. The Lobster Omelette is still a standout entree you almost want to lick the plate! Not sure why people say it is very expensive? The mains circa $35-40 - after 5 years in Sydney that is cafe prices and I still think this is some of the best Italian we have to offer. Specials always make the choice even more difficult - I had the squid ink pasta which was beautiful. Service we could not fault either - will be back next month and one after!
My favourite Italian restaurant in Melbourne by a good margin. Where else would I go for my anniversary every year, as well as any other excuse. Lets face it, the boss knows what he is doing.
The food is rich (lobster or Alba truffle omelette, wild boar) and the handmade pasta superb, plus the tiramisu (made with zabaglione). Throw in a great wine list that goes so well with the food.
Sure its crowded and noisy, but who is going there as a group of 10? On top of that, service has fluctuated recently, but the core group of experience remains. I am Italian and I love my mum, but the food here is better.
Great restaurant! Having dined here 3 times in the last few years it is always a must when we come to Melbourne. We own an Italian restaurant in Sydney and can appreciate the detail that this restaurant goes to, to get the little details right. Initials in the butter is an example of this. Service may appear pretentious but I just take that as real Italian Service.
From the menu it may appear to a classic Italian menu but the specials are the exciting things. Wild Boar and Gunea Fowl with real Italian flavours..
I have eaten here on two occasions and on both the food was fantastic. The service is also top notch. The wine list is good but very over priced and this is not a ploy to offset the good value food as that is also at the higher end. I would recommend this as a positive dining experience but value for money.
This place is over rated and I can't understand the two chefs hats in the Good Food Guide. The food was good but not great which I would expect for the prices charged and reputation. The service was average and the waiters seemed to be putting on an act which came across as false. The ambience could best be described as being noisy, crowded and dark. Overall and average experience at an exorbitant price.
Huge disappointment! We had the $30 lunch special plus an extra entree. We don't drink alcohol, so we had lemonades instead. But they insisted on charging us for the wine we never drank.
