Never to return again. After enjoying our lunch we paid for our meal and left the cafe content. Upon checking my bank account the next day, I discovered that Cafe Matto had charged me an extra $5. Sure, $5 is nothing, but it's the principle of it. I had not authorised an extra $5 when I signed using my credit card. When I called the manager to enquire about this discrepancy, he was arrogant and argued with me, saying the elderly gentleman I was with asked how he could tip $5 (he also apparently signed the credit card receipt). I was not with an elderly gentleman and the guy I was with is not a signatory to my credit card. I couldn't get over the fact that this so called manager doesn't even know 101 in business management - the customer is always right. I'd advise against dining here. Stay away!

We were exasperated. We'd had a very poor experience earlier in the morning, (at a cafe across the road from Cafe Matto), and so we cancelled our order there and looked for another cafe to eat breakfast.

How lovely for us that we landed at Cafe Matto. What a breath of fresh air it was after this extremely poor earlier experience. The food was delicious, the service excellent, professional, friendly and timely, and the coffee was good. We ate on a raining morning under the umbrellas outside as we had our young puppy with us. The outdoor sidewalk area is generous in size, as are the umbrellas, and we were comfortably enclosed.

We will return there weekly after our puppy training class and are glad we found a place with perfectly cooked eggs, delicious bernaise sauce and yummy sausages.
Thank you Cafe Matto for giving us such a lovely experience after our earlier poor one elsewhere.

My partner and I went went to Matto for a late breakfast. The food came out quickly yet the hollandaise was wrong, it was like beaten egg yolks rather than the thick and creamy hollandaise that we were expecting. The staff were for a long time unavailable to take up the issue with, and when they finally attended to our table they offered no alternative.

The staff were friendly enough despite this. The atmosphere was loud and noisy. Serving size was unnecessarily generous and it would have been preferable to have smaller, quality portions.

Pretty ordinary really. Food was restaurant prices but 'cafe' quality. Took a long time, and was extremely noisy. Wanted to stay for dessert and coffee, but was too noisy to get attention and nobody bothered to ask, so we left.

Guys, get over yourselves and lift your game! It's time you removed the 'As seen on Channel 9' plastered all over your shop window. That was actually some years ago and embarrassing at that. Focus on improving your customer service rather than chatting amongst yourselves and checking out girls in the street!

I had read quite a few reviews of this place before going and was expecting it to be far worse! My friend and I both really enjoyed the food, and the service was fantastic (although it was an early dinner, mid week so not many other customers vying for attention). We both had beautiful, fresh salads and lovely bread. I would recommend it for sure.

We went on a tuesday night. The service was bad, slow to take our order (even though the place was empty), slow at clearing plates. The up side food came out pretty quickly (makes me wonder if the food was preheated in a microwave). The wait staff were talking amongst each other instead of taking our dessert order, which didn't bother us as we decided to have icecream at home.

The senior staff was too busy chatting away to customers to notice what his staff were doing. One word of advice get some decent wait staff. I would only go back to get the calamari but only as takeaway.

Bad service, bad food did I mention the bad service. Place was dead and the wait staff did not look like they want to be there. The senior staff looked disinterested and unmotivating. Will never go there again.
