I had some visitors from overseas who one Friday nite "on impulse" wanted to enjoy a warm outdoor dinning experience in Melbourne's South Bank. Having not researched or pre-booked a restaurant we ended up at Cafe Baci and were able to be seated at an outdoor table which was great.The warning bells should have registered then as all other outdoor tables in South Bank's restaurants/cafes that we tried were fully booked out. Once seated it was over 20 minutes before they bothered to take our drinks order (the cafe was not that busy)and then a further 45 minutes for the order to be taken for food. The food took forever to arrive, which is not so bad if the waiters keep the drinks up... but no, that would be called attentive service... or just service. We hoped that the food would redeem the poor service but no, it was abysmal... all of our dishes were very poor, the Risotto was tasteless and poorly cooked as was the Lasagne and the other meals and the Rib-eye fillet was like an old boot. So to recap, the service was very poor, the food was awful and the cost for the overall experience...massively "over priced" for the quility. I will never go back nor recommend Cafe Baci to anybody.

Dropped in here for coffee and tea on the weekend and it was nice. Service was a little slow, but it was a busy place though. I may get something to eat next time because they had some nice stuff on the menu.

Risotto was very nice but the service was lacking. Had waiters standing around talking when our plates were empty for 10 minutes.

Food was good, however, they delivered the last meal far too late. Waitress could not understand English, and missed one of the meals. Everyone else had finished when it came out so we sent it back. Maitre d' came and apologised and offered a round of free coffees, which somewhat eased the pain. Outside is full of smokers and we had to come inside due to this which is a thoroughfare for foot traffic.

Overall the ambience is rubbish, the service sub par, the food good, but nowhere near enough to just the high prices. Wouldn't come back.

Love their big breakfast. This dish is really really gooood. All items on the plate are cooked perfectly and the most important thing is all the elements on the dish are my favourite. What more can I ask?

Stopped in here for ice-cream. Looked great but it was pretty average. Not much better than what you can get in the supermarket. I tried the Coffee Chocolate Fudge flavour. Wouldn't bother going here again.

I had $29 fish and chips here, could got better at the fish and chip shop. Batter was average and badly cooked, fish portion was very small, salad was a few leaves thrown on the plate with no dressing. My partner ate here the following night (not knowing that's where I'd been), she had pumpkin risotto (average to poor in her own opinion) and was not feeling well 4 hours later.
