My most recent visit to this former excellent suburban restaurant was a disappointment. I booked a table for 4 for 8pm on a Saturday night to celebrate my wife's birthday. When we arrived the restaurant had been renovated and enlarged and it was full, and so I thought this is an excellent sign. However the food is only average and the waiter service is terrible.
Ten minutes after arriving, a less than friendly waiter asked us if we wanted a drink which was fine, except for the fact that he couldn't produce a wine list. We ordered a couple of glasses of champagne and a couple of glasses of Merlot and hoped that the prices were reasonable.
Twenty minutes later a menu was produced and then we were expected to order on the spot, which I would normally not even consider, however it was already 8.30pm.
We ordered and then we had to wait 45 minutes for 4 basic entrees, three of the orders were for oysters natural and the other was for chicken and sweetcorn soup (come on, did they have to visit a seaside beach and collect the oysters!!!).
The mains arrived 15 minutes later, my rabbit leg was dry and tasteless, the crumbed lamb chops were fatty and my wife's calamari was passable. The only really good meal was the steak, however it was delivered to the table rare and not medium as ordered. I'm getting sick of precious chefs cooking steak the way they want to instead of the customer, who is paying??
The desserts of tiramisu, and baked cheesecake were all right but nothing to rave about. The combined bill of $300 for four was definitely not great value for money. I have been a fan for many years, but I won’t be venturing back.
