Overview of Brandon Hotel

Tucked away in a quiet residential block of Carlton North, the Brandon Hotel couples the character and charm of a true corner pub with the service and food of a quality restaurant.

The front bar is cosy but not tight, a long L-shaped service area is tended by friendly and attentive staff, and large windows gaze over the Carlton North streetscape. Clean beer lines serve up the fresh ales the locals so enjoy and a good selection of boutique and imported beers keep the most ardent connoisseur refreshed.

The menu offers tasty snacks and hearty pub fare including a chicken parma voted amongst Melbourne's best. Moving through to the dining and lounge aresa, a warm welcome will hint at what's to come. A modern fireplace, sprawling couch area, stocked wine rack and quality dining furniture dress the stage, then the food grabs the spotlight.

Trivia is popular on Wednesdays, Steak Nights are a hit on Thursdays and lazy lunches are a great way to spend a weekend afternoon.

The Brandon also caters for functions.

    I have now eaten twice at the Brandon and this is a lovely place and just right for dinner with friends when you want to kick back a bit and enjoy the company. Their dining room at the back if the hotel is large and comfortable, and although the last time we went it was rather quiet, I think the ambience would still have been there even if it had been busier.

    The food is your "modern Australia, well cooked and presented but not world beating. When we were there on Saturday night, we ordered some shared entrees off the menu and were presented with a mix of dips, terrines cold meats, and bread, and they were really delicious and just right for the occasion.

    I had a lamb rump while others had the slow cooked lamb neck, all of which were tasty. Service was efficient and friendly and price wise, was not value, but not really outrageous given that we had such a nice evening.

    Recommended for a quiet meal with someone special, or with a group of friends where you want to eat and talk, not shout over a disco or a bunch of drunken yobs at the bar.
