I always thought of Bouzy Rouge as a gastro pub but it’s way more than that. It’s more a fine dining experience with a refined and classy bar up front. The food is wonderful and complemented with a great drinks selection.

Had a wonderful meal here and will be back. Bit cramped round the table and a bit noisy but the food outweighs that.

We had mostly Tapas, prawns were stewed, Camembert was microwaved, zucchini flowers tasted like they had popped down the road to dip it in the oil at KFC, oysters were drowned in the melted ice they were served upon and then we get to the service.

Admittedly, it was our waiters first night from behind the bar, and her companion was doing a double shift but really, at times I felt like a camel in the desert, such was the lack of refreshing beverages being offered to me and at least twice my requests were forgotten/overlooked (not difficult requests, but requests such as, can I have a look at the wine list please?). I was surprised it was full, I will never go back there again.

Absolutely disappointed. Service was quite good but food came out too slow. When I got food it had been cold. No professional kitchen staff. It's just pub! that's it!

I would not put the Bouzy Rouge in the category of a pub dining room, (even though it clearly is). It is definitely a restaurant.

We arrived after being refused service at several more easterly establishments whose kitchens were shut (good grief it was all of 9.45 pm on a Friday night). We were greeted charmingly at the door and swept directly to a comfortable table where bread, water and wine were promptly delivered. The room was buzzing but not overly crowded, and the small crowd enjoying the AFL Preliminary Final in the public bar added atmosphere rather than distraction.

The decor is a little eclectic, and my dining partner found it odd, but I liked it. The long skinny room makes for a strange layout, but again for me it worked, and the outdoor area, not appealing on a bleak September night, would no doubt be a delight in summer. We ordered a single tapas dish and two mains, everything was superb. Prawns in garlic were among the best I can remember eating in Melbourne and frankly better than NSW, SA or Queensland: stunning. Eye fillet cooked to absolute pink perfection with generous servings of mash and greens, and rockling prepared to perfection on a stunning mound of mashed beetroot and luminous green peas. Killers!

The service was prompt and attentive and there were happy faces all around. Definitely recommended. I expect when it is full to bursting it has a different vibe and could get a bit overwhelming (and the waiters must struggle to move around) but our experience was extremely positive. We left at midnight and the place was still mellow.

Generally, there was more interest in the 'tapas', with some quite flavoursome. Mains less interesting, and desserts prosaic. Prices do add up, so choose wisely.
Interesting wine list with good less expensive options. Odd decor to say the least, and a little too crowded for comfort. Waiters sometimes difficult to wave down. Drinks took a while to come, surprising in a pub. Ok, but you'll see red when the bill comes if you get too bouzy.

Had heard awesome things, am still trying to work out why! Décor (antlers/animal skins everywhere) puts me off. Food was good, but some wait staff made me feel they were doing us a favour by just being there. It was ok, but you can have a far better night out in Richmond for less cash, and with less attitude. At the end of the day, it's just a pub.
