Located on Bourke Hill in Melbourne’s Little Italy, Bottega’s cosy, welcoming ambience, plush leather seats and soft lighting, has made it a long time favourite haunt for CBD diners. The perfect place for devoted foodies to discover the delights of contemporary Italian flavours and fine local produce.

My husband and I went to Bottega for dinner last weekend. To say the experience was disappointing is an understatement. The decor and staff were lovely but the food which is the backbone of any restaurant was terrible. We started with the scallops and capriccio and they were both bland. They were both well seasoned but lacked taste and anything special to justify the exhorbitant cost of $40 in total.
We then moved onto the roast duck with an orange jus and the orange pieces tasked old and the duck bland. The duck was also serves by itself with no side serve to compliment the dish. On a good note, the duck was moist. I had the agnolotti and the pasta was undercooked. I was advised by the waiter that the kitchen staff liked to cook it aldente to ensure it stayed together. I have eaten aldente pasta in Italy and there is a fine line between undercooked and aldente.
Unfortunately, this kitchen staff got it wrong. Thankfully I was offered another dish the ricotta gnocchi. The gnocchi was served with portobello mushrooms which overpowered the dish. We then moved onto dessert and after requesting the chocolate mousse were advised that they didn't have any left. We chose the tiramsu which was served in a cappuccino cup with an excess amount of mascarpone (instead of even layers of mascarpone and spponge fingers).
I won't be returning to Bottega because the food didn't cut it for me and match to the prices on the menu. If you choose to go, maybe you'll have a better experience than mine.

We dined here recently & it was a disappointing experience, the staff were lovely but the food was very substandard, using the prices as an indicator for quality I expected more, the value for money was below average. We ordered a full dozen oysters as starters, they were the saddest oysters we've ever seen, very deflated, not fleshy at all, served natural with lemon & for $42 we expected the best of the best but it was not to be, very disappointed that the kitchen even thought they were good enough to be served, very poor quality.
The mains took a long time to arrive, I had the barramundi with wild rice, which was very dry & bland, my partner had the duck, which was very dry & chewy we had a couple of side dishes which were ok & the dessert was our favourite part of the meal. I think we expected too much of this restaurant, they cater for big groups upstairs which we weren't aware of when we booked & I think this affected the meal times & quality, they would be better suited to keeping the patronage small for the prices they charge. We had hoped dining here would have been the highlight of our trip to Melbourne but we won't be returning.

Wow, what a dinner! The service was flawless and the food was absolutely amazing. The chef of Bottega is a true artist. I don't know what was better, the mushroom pappardelle or the deserts. I'll be back soon. Very soon.

Had a wonderful meal on a busy saturday night with 5 friends, we managed to get a table by the window with a perfect view of Bourke St- great service and vibe. Was a bit worried about being a vego but they had the most amazing carrot risotto and the desserts were divine.

The service was delightful, especially our waitress Ines. The food was delicate and satisfying. However the best part were the drinks, beautifully matched to the food.

A very disappointing visit this time. Could the ownership has changed? The service was unbelievably terrible, slow, arrogant and lazy. Each time we want our wine and water glasses filled, we had to ask to attention. We had to wait 15 minutes for the bill to arrive and another 15 minutes to process payment. We didn't hear a word of "thank you" throughout the night.
The food was very average, scallops were overcooked, lamb dish was too salty and tough, the oysters were of poor quality and the beef were overcooked, and the wait time was well over 30 minutes. The couple who sat next to us, had to physically tap the waiter on the shoulder, so that they could order their food. I've always love Bottega but after this time, Never again.

We dined here early on a Monday with two small children and were made to feel welcome and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere very pleasant.
The food was ok, but wasn't a stand-out. I had duck and that's what I got. Duck on a plate. I didn't realise I had to order sides to go with it, and wasn't informed that it didn't come with any. Bit disappointing. The children were well looked after with pasta and the kitchen made a salad up especially for my daughter which was very nice. Would come back again for a romantic dinner without the children. Will know how to order next time!

On arriving at this restaurant which had been highly recommended, our group was treated as if we should not have been there. The maitre d' looked at our friends with discontent, almost dismissing them as a waste of time because they did not want to drink alcohol. I think that in this day and age this is unacceptable. I will definitely never return to such a place...!

Was here as a group of 9 celebrating a friend's birthday down in Melbourne and we all loved it! I had the scotch fillet (medium rare)for main, which was probably one of the best cooked steaks I've ever had and the rosemary roast potatoes were amazing. The waiters were very friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Ambience was so so, but its the food that was the stand out.
